feat: Deprecate "import assertions" with a warning (#24743)
This commit deprecates "import assertions" proposal that has been
replaced with "import attributes".

Any time an import assertion is encountered a warning will be printed
to the terminal. This warning will be printed for both local and
remote files (ie. user code and dependencies).

Import assertions support will be removed in Deno 2.

refactor: version module exports a single const struct (#25014)
This commit rewrites the internal `version` module that exported
various information about the current executable. Instead of exporting
several consts, we are now exporting a single const structure that
contains all the necessary information.

This is the first step towards cleaning up how we use this information
and should allow us to use SUI to be able to patch this information
in already produced binary making it easier to cut new releases.

feat(serve): Opt-in parallelism for deno serve (#24920)
Adds a `parallel` flag to `deno serve`. When present, we spawn multiple
workers to parallelize serving requests.

```bash
deno serve --parallel main.ts
```

Currently on linux we use `SO_REUSEPORT` and rely on the fact that the
kernel will distribute connections in a round-robin manner.

On mac and windows, we sort of emulate this by cloning the underlying
file descriptor and passing a handle to each worker. The connections
will not be guaranteed to be fairly distributed (and in practice almost
certainly won't be), but the distribution is still spread enough to
provide a significant performance increase.

fix(node): Rework node:child_process IPC (#24763)
Fixes https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/24756. Fixes
https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/24796.

This also gets vitest working when using
[`--pool=forks`](https://vitest.dev/guide/improving-performance#pool)
(which is the default as of vitest 2.0). Ref
https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/23882.

---

This PR resolves a handful of issues with child_process IPC. In
particular:

- We didn't support sending typed array views over IPC
- Opening an IPC channel resulted in the event loop never exiting
- Sending a `null` over IPC would terminate the channel
- There was some UB in the read implementation (transmuting an `&[u8]`
to `&mut [u8]`)
- The `send` method wasn't returning anything, so there was no way to
signal backpressure (this also resulted in the benchmark
`child_process_ipc.mjs` being misleading, as it tried to respect
backpressure. That gave node much worse results at larger message sizes,
and gave us much worse results at smaller message sizes).
- We weren't setting up the `channel` property on the `process` global
(or on the `ChildProcess` object), and also didn't have a way to
ref/unref the channel
- Calling `kill` multiple times (or disconnecting the channel, then
calling kill) would throw an error
- Node couldn't spawn a deno subprocess and communicate with it over IPC

fix(node): Run node compat tests listed in the ignore field (and fix the ones that fail) (#24631)
The intent is that those tests will be executed, but our check that the
files are up to date won't overwrite the contents of the tests. This is
useful when a test needs some manual edits to work.

It turns out we weren't actually running them.

---

This ended up turning into a couple of small bug fixes to get the tests
passing:

- We weren't canonicalizing the exec path properly (it sometimes still
had `..` or `.` in it)
- We weren't accepting strings in `process.exit`

There was one failure I couldn't figure out quickly, so I disabled the
test for now, and filed a follow up issue: #24694

Reland "refactor(fetch): reimplement fetch with hyper instead of reqwest" (#24593)
Originally landed in

Reverted in https://github.com/denoland/deno/pull/24574.

This reland contains a fix that sends "Accept: */*" header for calls made

from JSR broken. This is tested by ensuring this header is present in the
test server that servers JSR packages.

refactor(fetch): reimplement fetch with hyper instead of reqwest (#24237)
This commit re-implements `ext/fetch` and all dependent crates
using `hyper` and `hyper-util`, instead of `reqwest`.

The reasoning is that we want to have greater control and access
to low level `hyper` APIs when implementing `fetch` API as well
as `node:http` module.

feat(node): Support executing npm package lifecycle scripts (preinstall/install/postinstall) (#24487)
Adds support for running npm package lifecycle scripts, opted into via a
new `--allow-scripts` flag.

With this PR, when running `deno cache` (or `DENO_FUTURE=1 deno
install`) you can specify the `--allow-scripts=pkg1,pkg2` flag to run
lifecycle scripts attached to the given packages.

Note at the moment this only works when `nodeModulesDir` is true (using
the local resolver).

When a package with un-run lifecycle scripts is encountered, we emit a
warning suggesting things may not work and to try running lifecycle
scripts. Additionally, if a package script implicitly requires
`node-gyp` and it's not found on the system, we emit a warning.

Extra things in this PR:
- Extracted out bits of `task.rs` into a separate module for reuse
- Added a couple fields to `process.config` in order to support
`node-gyp` (it relies on a few variables being there)
- Drive by fix to downloading new npm packages to test registry

---

TODO:
- [x] validation for allow-scripts args (make sure it looks like an npm
package)
- [x] make allow-scripts matching smarter
- [ ] figure out what issues this closes

---
Review notes:
- This adds a bunch of deps to our test registry due to using
`node-gyp`, so it's pretty noisy

fix(node): Implement fs.lchown (and process.getegid) (#24418)
Closes https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/21260.
Part of https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/18218.

Implements `node:fs.lchown`, and enables the node_compat test for it.
The test uses `process.getegid`, which we didn't have implemented, so I
went ahead and implemented that as well to get the test working.

Internal changes: Adds a hidden rid and "ipc_for_internal_use" option to

Example:

const proc = spawn(process.execPath, ["./main.mjs", "child"], {

refactor: remove PermissionsContainer in deno_runtime (#24119)
Also removes permissions being passed in for node resolution. It was
completely useless because we only checked it for reading package.json
files, but Deno reading package.json files for resolution is perfectly
fine.

My guess is this is also a perf improvement because Deno is doing less
work.

feat: Add Deno.exitCode API (#23609)
This commits adds the ability to set a would-be exit code
for the Deno process without forcing an immediate exit,
through the new `Deno.exitCode` API.

- **Implements `Deno.exitCode` getter and setter**: Adds support for
setting
and retrieving a would-be exit code via `Deno.exitCode`.
This allows for asynchronous cleanup before process termination
without immediately exiting.
- **Ensures type safety**: The setter for `Deno.exitCode` validates that
the provided value is a number, throwing a TypeError if not, to ensure
that
only valid exit codes are set.

Closes to #23605

fix(ext/node): windows cancel stdin read in line mode (#23969)
This patch fixes stdin read hanging on user input when switching tty
mode on Windows

Fixes #21111

On Windows, when switching from line to raw mode:
- Cancel ongoing console read by writing a return keypress to its input
buffer. This blocks the main thread until any ongoing read has been
cancelled to prevent interference with the screen state.
- On the read thread, restore the cursor position to where it was before
writing the enter, undoing its effect on the screen state.
- Restart reading and notify the main thread.

refactor(ext/tls): Implement required functionality for later SNI support (#23686)
Precursor to #23236

This implements the SNI features, but uses private symbols to avoid
exposing the functionality at this time. Note that to properly test this
feature, we need to add a way for `connectTls` to specify a hostname.
This is something that should be pushed into that API at a later time as
well.

```ts
Deno.test(
  { permissions: { net: true, read: true } },
  async function listenResolver() {
    let sniRequests = [];
    const listener = Deno.listenTls({
      hostname: "localhost",
      port: 0,
      [resolverSymbol]: (sni: string) => {
        sniRequests.push(sni);
        return {
          cert,
          key,
        };
      },
    });
    {
      const conn = await Deno.connectTls({
        hostname: "localhost",
        [serverNameSymbol]: "server-1",
        port: listener.addr.port,
      });
      const [_handshake, serverConn] = await Promise.all([
        conn.handshake(),
        listener.accept(),
      ]);
      conn.close();
      serverConn.close();
    }
    {
      const conn = await Deno.connectTls({
        hostname: "localhost",
        [serverNameSymbol]: "server-2",
        port: listener.addr.port,
      });
      const [_handshake, serverConn] = await Promise.all([
        conn.handshake(),
        listener.accept(),
      ]);
      conn.close();
      serverConn.close();
    }
    assertEquals(sniRequests, ["server-1", "server-2"]);
    listener.close();
  },
);
fix(cli): Enforce a human delay in prompt to fix paste problem (#23184)
The permission prompt doesn't wait for quiescent input, so someone
pasting a large text file into the console may end up losing the prompt.
We enforce a minimum human delay and wait for a 100ms quiescent period
before we write and accept prompt input to avoid this problem.
This does require adding a human delay in all prompt tests, but that's
pretty straightforward. I rewrote the locked stdout/stderr test while I
was in here.
perf(permissions): Fast exit from checks when permission is in "fully-granted" state (#22894)
Skips the access check if the specific unary permission is in an
all-granted state. Generally prevents an allocation or two.
Hooks up a quiet "all" permission that is automatically inherited. This
permission will be used in the future to indicate that the user wishes
to accept all side-effects of the permissions they explicitly granted.
The "all" permission is an "ambient flag"-style permission that states
whether "allow-all" was passed on the command-line.
![image](https://github.com/denoland/deno/assets/34997667/2af8474b-b919-4519-98ce-9d29bc7829f2)
This PR moves `runtime/permissions` code to a upstream crate called
`deno_permissions`. The `deno_permissions::PermissionsContainer` is put
into the OpState and can be used instead of the current trait-based
permissions system.
For this PR, I've migrated `deno_fetch` to the new crate but kept the
rest of the trait-based system as a wrapper of `deno_permissions` crate.
Doing the migration all at once is error prone and hard to review.
Comparing incremental compile times for `ext/fetch` on Mac M1:
| profile | `cargo build --bin deno` | `cargo plonk build --bin deno` |
| --------- | ------------- | ------------------- |
| `debug`   | 20 s          | 0.8s                |
| `release` | 4 mins 12 s   | 1.4s                  |
Fixes #22724. Fixes #7164.
This does add a dependency on `signal-hook`, but it's just a higher
level API on top of `signal-hook-registry` (which we and `tokio` already
depend on) and doesn't add any transitive deps.
refactor(ext/node): worker_threads.isMainThread setup (#22785)
This commit changes how we figure out if we're running on main
thread in `node:worker_threads` module. Instead of relying on quirky
"magic variable" for a name to check if we're on main thread, we are
now explicitly passing this information during bootstrapping of the
runtime. As a side effect, `WorkerOptions.name` is more useful
and matches what Node.js does more closely (though not fully).
This moves the op sanitizer descriptions into Rust code and prepares for
eventual op import from `ext:core/ops`. We cannot import these ops from
`ext:core/ops` as the testing infrastructure ops are not always present.
Changes:
- Op descriptions live in `cli` code and are currently accessible via an
op for the older sanitizer code
 - `phf` dep moved to workspace root so we can use it here
- `ops.op_XXX` changed to to `op_XXX` to prepare for op imports later
on.
refactor: remove imported ops from Deno.core.ops (#22194)
This commit adds a list of ops to `runtime/99_main.js` that are
currently relying on getting them from `Deno.core.ops`. All ops that are not
present in the list are removed from `Deno.core.ops` on startup (they are
imported from "virtual op module" - `ext:core/ops`) making them effectively
inaccessible to user code.
This change lowers the number of ops exposed to user code from 650 to
around 260. This number should be gradually decreased in follow-up PRs.
This commit makes deprecation warnings less verbose by default.
Only a single warnings is issued per deprecated API use.
