A workaround for the issue #25480
`Deno.Listener` can't be closed synchronously after `accept()` is
called. This PR delays the `accept` call 2 ticks (The listener callback
is called 1 tick later. So the 1 tick delay is not enough), and makes
`net.Server` capable of being closed synchronously.
This unblocks `npm:detect-port` and `npm:portfinder`
closes #18301
closes #25175
Closes https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/25321
Ended up being a larger refactoring, since we're now juggling
(potentially) two config files in the same `add`, instead of choosing
one. I don't love the shape of the code, but I think it's good enough
Some smaller side improvements:
- `deno remove` supports `jsonc`
- `deno install --dev` will be a really simple change
- if `deno remove` removes the last import/dependency in the
`imports`/`dependencies`/`devDependencies` field, it removes the field
instead of leaving an empty object
The map field has been empty for years now and we don't want the emit
file to be exposed so it allows us to iterate on making the cache
faster. Additionally, it's racy/unreliable to rely on this information.
Instead, people should emit the TS files themselves using tools like
deno_emit, typescript, esbuild, etc.

This works only for `.cjs` files, the contents of sibling `package.json`

This commit adds:
- `addAbortListener` in `node:events`
- `aborted` in `node:util`
- `execPath` and `execvArgs` named export from `node:process`
- `getDefaultHighWaterMark` from `node:stream`
The `execPath` is very hacky - because module namespaces can not have
real getters, `execPath` is an object with a `toString()` method that on
call returns the actual `execPath`, and replaces the `execPath` binding
with the string. This is done so that we don't require the `execPath`
permission on startup.

This commit changes when to cause the hostname substition of `0.0.0.0` ->

Currently we substitute `localhost` to the hostname on windows before

This change fixes the handling of upgraded socket from `node:http` module.
In `op_node_http_fetch_response_upgrade`, we create DuplexStream paired
with `hyper::upgrade::Upgraded`. When the connection is closed from the
server, the read result from `Upgraded` becomes 0. However because we
don't close the paired DuplexStream at that point, the Socket object in
JS side keeps alive even after the server closed. That caused the issue
#20179
This change fixes it by closing the paired DuplexStream when the
`Upgraded` stream returns 0 read result.

This allows using npm deps of jsr deps without having to add them to the
root package.json.
Works by taking the package requirement and scanning the
`node_modules/.deno` directory for the best matching package, so it
relies on deno's node_modules structure.
Additionally to make the transition from package.json to deno.json
easier, Deno now:
1. Installs npm deps in a deno.json at the same time as installing npm
deps from a package.json.
2. Uses the alias in the import map for `node_modules/<alias>` for
better package.json compatiblity.
These now works:
```
$ deno add @std/dotenv/load
$ deno add npm:preact/hooks
```
Previously we were erroring out, because this is a "package reference"
including
a subpath.

`--allow-run` even with an allow list has essentially been
`--allow-all`... this locks it down more.
1. Resolves allow list for `--allow-run=` on startup to an absolute

Also, adds these paths to `--deny-write`
1. Resolves the environment (cwd and env vars) before evaluating

This commit effectively turns Deno into Deno 2.0.
This is done by forcing `DENO_FUTURE=1` env var, that was available in
the past few months to try Deno 2 changes.
This commit contains several breaking changes scheduled for Deno 2:
- all deprecated JavaScript APIs are not available any more, mostly
`Deno.*` APIs
- `window` global is removed
- FFI, WebGPU and FS APIs are now stable and don't require

This is the first commit in a series that are scheduled before the Deno

Turns out we only virtualized it so one could have a `Console` property,
and the other one not. We can just make this `console.Console` available

Import assertions support will be removed in Deno 2.
Permission flags are unified in a clearer and concise output.
Unstable flags are hidden by default with exception of the `unstable`

actually need them.
Also sorts flags alphabetically, and gorups various flags together in a
set of categories.

This PR addresses a regression introduced in

PrismJS uses `WorkerGlobalScope` and `self` for detecting browser's Web
Worker context:

Now the detection logic above is broken when it's imported from Deno's

My fix in #25030 was buggy, I forgot to pass the `byteOffset` and

passing the original one (which is what node does, and the @types/node

MacOS tends to not distribute evenly, so just don't assert that requests
were served by > 1 worker on mac.
Also added a check that all workers start, so we at least check that on
macos.
From upgrading `deno_lint`.
Previously if you had a node project that used a bunch of node globals
(`process.env`, etc), you would have to fix the errors by hand. This PR
includes a new lint that detects usages of node globals (`process`,
`setImmediate`, `Buffer`, etc.) and provides an autofix to import the
correct value. For instance:
```ts
// main.ts
const _foo = process.env.FOO;
```
`deno lint` gives you
```ts
error[no-node-globals]: NodeJS globals are not available in Deno
--> /home/foo.ts:1:14
|
1 | const _foo = process.env.FOO;
| ^^^^^^^
= hint: Add `import process from "node:process";`
docs: https://lint.deno.land/rules/no-node-globals
```
And `deno lint --fix` adds the import for you:
```ts
// main.ts
import process from "node:process";
const _foo = process.env.FOO;
```

After this PR, playwright is functional on mac/linux.
Adds a `parallel` flag to `deno serve`. When present, we spawn multiple
workers to parallelize serving requests.
```bash
deno serve --parallel main.ts
```
Currently on linux we use `SO_REUSEPORT` and rely on the fact that the
kernel will distribute connections in a round-robin manner.
On mac and windows, we sort of emulate this by cloning the underlying
file descriptor and passing a handle to each worker. The connections
will not be guaranteed to be fairly distributed (and in practice almost
certainly won't be), but the distribution is still spread enough to
provide a significant performance increase.

There is no constructor code when creating an inspector `Session`

This PR adds a lot of new individual functionality. But most importantly
because
of the new key material representation, it is now trivial to add new

Now, when adding a new algorithm, it is also widely supported - for

This moves YAML formatting behind an unstable flag for Deno 1.46. This

specifying the following in a deno.json file:
```json
{
"unstable": ["fmt-yaml"]
This PR resolves a handful of issues with child_process IPC. In
particular:
- We didn't support sending typed array views over IPC
- Opening an IPC channel resulted in the event loop never exiting
- Sending a `null` over IPC would terminate the channel
- There was some UB in the read implementation (transmuting an `&[u8]`
to `&mut [u8]`)
- The `send` method wasn't returning anything, so there was no way to
signal backpressure (this also resulted in the benchmark
`child_process_ipc.mjs` being misleading, as it tried to respect
backpressure. That gave node much worse results at larger message sizes,
and gave us much worse results at smaller message sizes).
- We weren't setting up the `channel` property on the `process` global
(or on the `ChildProcess` object), and also didn't have a way to
ref/unref the channel
- Calling `kill` multiple times (or disconnecting the channel, then
calling kill) would throw an error
- Node couldn't spawn a deno subprocess and communicate with it over IPC
Support `MessagePort.once` in Node mode and enable relevant
`worker_threads` test. Noticed that another Node test was passing as
well, so I enabled that too.
This change aims to replace all relative import specifiers targeted at
`tests/util/std` with mapped ones (using a `deno.json` file). Towards
updating the `std` git submodule.
Two small changes:
- In our BYONM errors, suggest running `deno install` instead of `npm
install` if `DENO_FUTURE` is set
- Only emit warning about `deno install` changes if you do `deno install
<foo>` with deno_future unset
The intent is that those tests will be executed, but our check that the
files are up to date won't overwrite the contents of the tests. This is
useful when a test needs some manual edits to work.
It turns out we weren't actually running them.
---
This ended up turning into a couple of small bug fixes to get the tests
passing:
- We weren't canonicalizing the exec path properly (it sometimes still
had `..` or `.` in it)
- We weren't accepting strings in `process.exit`
There was one failure I couldn't figure out quickly, so I disabled the
test for now, and filed a follow up issue: #24694
Originally I thought to fix the issue in the PR we needed to explicitly
pass through the `node-modules-dir` flag, but after applying the correct
fix that david pointed out (setting `NPM_PROCESS_STATE`) that wasn't
necessary (or correct).
We had a test for deno task with BYONM, but it only tested with
Originally landed in
Reverted in https://github.com/denoland/deno/pull/24574.
This reland contains a fix that sends "Accept: */*" header for calls made
from "FileFetcher". Absence of this header made downloading source code
from JSR broken. This is tested by ensuring this header is present in the
NPM inserts a default install script when a package has a `binding.gyp`
file.
It's possible, however, for the package to exclude the `binding.gyp`
file when they publish, and in this case the install script will never
succeed for a user of the package.
This happens with `fsevents`, for instance. They don't include the
`binding.gyp` file in their published tarball, but the default install
script appears in the manifest served by `npm`.
This causes us to warn that `fsevents` has an install script, but when
you try to run it it fails due to `binding.gyp` not existing.
This is a temporary fix, which is not perfect - specifying
`--import-map`
will break resolution of packages defined in `workspace` setting, but
erroring on `--import-map` currently causes regression in code that
worked fine in v1.44.x.
Previously when we printed out the packages that skipped install
scripts, we didn't prefix them with `npm:`. When you pass
`--allow-scripts` though, we require `npm:`, which means you can't just
copy paste the package name from the warning message.
This PR stubs `perf_hooks.eventLoopUtilization` to make the tests of
[hapi](https://github.com/hapijs/hapi) start. Previously, they'd all
error because of this function throwing a not implemented error. This
brings down the test failures in their suite from 982 to 68 failures.
Adds support for running npm package lifecycle scripts, opted into via a
new `--allow-scripts` flag.
With this PR, when running `deno cache` (or `DENO_FUTURE=1 deno
install`) you can specify the `--allow-scripts=pkg1,pkg2` flag to run
lifecycle scripts attached to the given packages.
Note at the moment this only works when `nodeModulesDir` is true (using
the local resolver).
When a package with un-run lifecycle scripts is encountered, we emit a
warning suggesting things may not work and to try running lifecycle
scripts. Additionally, if a package script implicitly requires
`node-gyp` and it's not found on the system, we emit a warning.
Extra things in this PR:
- Extracted out bits of `task.rs` into a separate module for reuse
- Added a couple fields to `process.config` in order to support
`node-gyp` (it relies on a few variables being there)
- Drive by fix to downloading new npm packages to test registry
---
TODO:
- [x] validation for allow-scripts args (make sure it looks like an npm
package)
- [x] make allow-scripts matching smarter
- [ ] figure out what issues this closes
---
Review notes:
- This adds a bunch of deps to our test registry due to using
`node-gyp`, so it's pretty noisy
This commit deprecates `deno vendor` subcommand in favor
of using `--vendor` flag or `"vendor": true` setting in the config file.
The subcommand is still available (until Deno 2) but is hidden from
the help output.
The implementation for `assert.throws()` from `node:assert` didn't work
when the expected value was an `Error` constructor. In this case the
thrown error should checked if it's an instance of said constructor.
Fixes https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/24464
Also don't panic on invalid domain names and addresses.
Previously we had many different code paths all
handling digests in different places, all with
wildly different digest support. This commit
rewrites this to use a single digest handling
mechanism for all digest operations.
It adds various aliases for digest algorithms,
like node does. For example
`sha1WithRSAEncryption` is an alias for `sha1`.
It also adds support for `md5-sha1` digests in
various places.
It's perfectly valid to access `server.address()` before calling
`.listen()`. Until a server actively listens on a socket Node will
return `null` here, but we threw a "Cannot access property 'port' of
undefined" instead.
This was discovered when inspecting failures in Koa's test suite with
Deno.
Adds much better support for the unstable Deno workspaces as well as
support for npm workspaces. npm workspaces is still lacking in that we
only install packages into the root node_modules folder. We'll make it
smarter over time in order for it to figure out when to add node_modules
folders within packages.
This includes a breaking change in config file resolution where we stop
searching for config files on the first found package.json unless it's
in a workspace. For the previous behaviour, the root deno.json needs to
be updated to be a workspace by adding `"workspace":
["./path-to-pkg-json-folder-goes-here"]`. See details in
- Adds `fs.lutimes` and `fs.lutimesSync` to our node polyfills. To do
this I added methods to the `FileSystem` trait + ops to expose the
functionality to JS.
- Exports `fs._toUnixTimestamp`. Node exposes an internal util
`toUnixTimestamp` from the fs module to be used by unit tests (so we
need it for the unit test to pass unmodified). It's weird because it's
only supposed to be used internally but it's still publicly accessible
- Matches up error handling and timestamp handling for fs.futimes and
fs.utimes with node
- Enables the node_compat utimes test - this exercises futimes, lutimes,
and utimes.
Prevent panic when enabling a feature that is already enabled by
removing duplicate features.
Closes #18296.
Adds a `--frozen` (alias `--frozen-lockfile`) flag that errors out if
the lockfile is out of date. This is useful for running in CI (where an
out of date lockfile is usually a mistake) or to prevent accidental
changes in dependencies.
This commit adds discovery of `.npmrc` files in user's homedir.
This is not a perfect fix as it doesn't merge multiple `.npmrc` files
together as per https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/23954
but allows to fallback if no `.npmrc` file is discovered in the project
root.
Changes in this PR:
- Added new fixed size hash algorithms (blake2b512, blake2s256,
sha512-224, sha512-256, sha3-224, sha3-256, sha3-384, sha3-512, sm3)
- Added variable size hash algorithms (the concept), with the algorithms
shake128 and shake256
- Use cppgc instead of resources for the hasher
- Enable Node's crypto.Hash tests and fix found bugs
Fixes #23493.
What was happening here was that napi-rs was freeing the napi reference
([here](19e3488efc/crates/napi/src/bindgen_runtime/mod.rs (L62)))
during its finalize callback (which we call
[here](fb31eaa9ca/cli/napi/js_native_api.rs (L132))).
We then were [reading the `ownership`
field](fb31eaa9ca/cli/napi/js_native_api.rs (L136))
of that freed reference.
For some reason on arm macs the freed memory gets zeroed, so the value
of `ownership` was `0` when we read it (i.e. it was
`ReferenceOwnership::Runtime`). We then freed it again (since we thought
we owned it), causing the segfault.
This commit updates Deno to use `reqwest` at 0.12.4
and `rustls` at 0.22. Other related crates were updated
as well to match versions accepted by `reqwest` and `rustls`.
Note: we are not using the latest available `rustls` yet,
but this upgrade was non-trivial already, so a bump to
0.23 for `rustls` will be done in a separate commit.
Fixes a regression introduced in
https://github.com/denoland/deno/pull/24170, where we wouldn't actually
set up the node modules dir on `deno install` if there was an up to date
deno lockfile present.
Previously we were relying on the fact that resolving pending module
resolution called `cache_packages` (which sets up the node modules dir).
When pending resolutions were removed, and the `resolve_pending`
function with it, we also removed the `cache_packages` call needed to
set up node modules.
Previously res.setHeader("foo", ["bar", "baz"]) added a single header
with a value of `bar,baz`. Really this should add two separate headers.
This is visible in `set-cookie` for example.
Previously the asynchronous read of the blob would not block sends that
are started later. We now do this, but in such a way as to not regress
performance in the common case of not using `Blob`.
Previously various reads of files in `node_modules` would error on
invalid UTF-8. These were cases involving:
- reading package.json from Rust
- reading package.json from JS
- reading CommonJS files from JS
- reading CommonJS files from Rust (for ESM translation)
- reading ESM files from Rust
Factoring out `dlint` upgrade from
https://github.com/denoland/deno/pull/24034 as it
requires us to change the lint step on mac to use ARM runners.
errors' – `stack` is now an own accessor property on every instance, and
the getter calls `Error.prepareStackTrace`.
Fixes #24012.
In the case of multiple packages providing a binary with a same name, we
were basically leaving the results undefined (since we set up things in
parallel, and whichever got set up first won). In addition, we were
warning about these cases, even though it's a situation that's expected
to occur.
Instead, in the case of a collision in the binary names, we prefer the
binary provided by the package with the least depth in the dependency
tree.
While I was at it, I also took moved more code to `bin_entries.rs` since
it was starting to get a bit cluttered.
This commits adds the ability to set a would-be exit code
for the Deno process without forcing an immediate exit,
through the new `Deno.exitCode` API.
- **Implements `Deno.exitCode` getter and setter**: Adds support for
setting
and retrieving a would-be exit code via `Deno.exitCode`.
This allows for asynchronous cleanup before process termination
without immediately exiting.
- **Ensures type safety**: The setter for `Deno.exitCode` validates that
the provided value is a number, throwing a TypeError if not, to ensure
that
only valid exit codes are set.
