Fixes #21660
Adds a basic `Immediate` class to mirror `NodeJS.Immediate`, and changes
`setImmediate` and `clearImmediate` to return and accept (respectively)
`Immediate` objects.
Note that for now {ref,unref,hasRef} are effectively stubs, as deno_core
doesn't really natively support immediates (they're currently modeled as
timers with delay of 0). Eventually we probably want to actually
implement these properly.
This commit changes how we figure out if we're running on main
thread in `node:worker_threads` module. Instead of relying on quirky
"magic variable" for a name to check if we're on main thread, we are
now explicitly passing this information during bootstrapping of the
runtime. As a side effect, `WorkerOptions.name` is more useful
and matches what Node.js does more closely (though not fully).

The issue seems to be already fixed since we upped to a newer 18.x
version string in [another

and `serverless-express` npm modules from working with Deno. These

This commit adds `ppid` getter for `node:process` to improve Node
compatibility one step further.
There is one problem though, which is that `Deno.ppid`, which
`process.ppid` internally calls, is actually of type `bigint` although
it's supposed to be `number`. I filed an issue for this (#22166). For
the time being, explciit type conversion from `bigint` to `number` is
applied to match the Node.js behavior.

Matches the Node.js implementation more closely. Removed types, they do
not help just make it harder to debug with stack traces.

This leaves us with 4 usages of `ensureFastOps()` in `deno` itself.
There's also about 150 usages of `Deno.core.ops.<op_name>` left as well.
For removal in Deno v2. There are two issues:
1. Any script being run causes the output of `warnOnDeprecatedApi()` to
be printed, even when none of the `rid` properties are called.
2. `.rid` of these classes is used in multiple tests. I'm not sure how
to account for that. I thought of having `STDIN_RID`, and friends,
constants, whose values can be shared between the tests and the classes
themselves. Should we go with that or do something else?

Most uses of `Deno.resources()` within tests, as they previously checked
for leaked resources. This is not needed as the test runner does this
automatically. Other internal uses of this API have been replaced with
the internal `Deno[Deno.internal].core.resources()`.

`Deno.stderr.isTerminal()`.

Ultimately, it came down to using incorrect property names in the
`FakeSocket` constructor. The values are passed under `remoteAddress`,
not `hostname` and `remotePort` instead of `port`.

This tackles the last point of #20516 where certain inputs weren't
accepted in the other zlib methods
This adds the `toU8` conversion of `_brotli` to `_zlib.mjs`, when we
create the ZLibBuffer, we'll sanitize the input. I noticed that the
async had no handler for `string` input so I added that as well.

brotli compress where we will always return a buffer like Node.

This adds a conversion from Dataview/Buffer by returning `obj.buffer`
which can be converted to a `UInt8Array`.
Question: Regarding point 4 of the mentioned issue would it be
appropriate to copy the toU8 helper to the `zlib.mjs` methods?
Main change is that:
- "hyper" has been renamed to "hyper_v014" to signal that it's legacy
- "hyper1" has been renamed to "hyper" and should be the default
`opAsync` requires a lookup by name on each async call. This is a
mechanical translation of all opAsync calls to ensureFastOps.
The `opAsync` API on Deno.core will be removed at a later time.
Node HTTP/2 was using the default h2 `Bytes` datatype when we can be
making using of `BufView` like we do in `Deno.serve`.
`fetch` and `Deno.serverHttp` can't make use of `BufView` because they
are using `reqwest` which is stuck on hyper 0.x at this time.
This PR implements the child_process IPC pipe between parent and child.
The implementation uses Windows named pipes created by parent and passes
the inheritable file handle to the child.
I've also replace parts of the initial implementation which passed the
raw parent fd to JS with resource ids instead. This way no file handle
is exposed to the JS land (both parent and child).
`IpcJsonStreamResource` can stream upto 800MB/s of JSON data on Win 11
AMD Ryzen 7 16GB (without `memchr` vectorization)

This PR implements the Node child_process IPC functionality in Deno on
Unix systems.
For `fd > 2` a duplex unix pipe is set up between the parent and child
processes. Currently implements data passing via the channel in the JSON
serialization format.
This problem occurred trying to load tensorflow.js

This commit adds a no-op flushHeaders method to the ServerResponse
object. It is a nop because the ServerResponse implementation is based
on top of the Deno server API instead of the Node `OutgoingMessage`
base.

This PR is an attempt to fix
https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/20293, in which node modules
connecting to databases fail due to TLS errors. I ran into this
attempting to use
[node-postgres](https://github.com/brianc/node-postgres) to connect to a
[Neon](https://neon.tech) database.
Investigating via `--inspect-brk` led me to notice that the hostname
eventually passed to `Deno.startTls` was null. The hostname is
determined by the following code:
f6b889b432/ext/node/polyfills/_tls_wrap.ts (L87-L89)
This logic doesn't appear to be correct. I couldn't find reference to
`servername` existing on the `secureContext` in either Node's or Deno's
docs. There's a lot of scope here, and it's my first time reading
through this code, so I could be missing something!
Node uses [the following
logic](2e458d9736/lib/_tls_wrap.js (L1679-L1682)
) to determine the hostname for certificate validation:

```
This PR updates the `TLSSocket` polyfill to use behave similarly (though
I omitted the default to `localhost` at the end; I'm not sure if
including it is necessary or correct). With this change, `node-postgres`
connects to my TLS endpoint successfully (aside: Neon requires SNI,
which also works as expected).

I tried to update the tests in
https://github.com/denoland/deno/blob/main/cli/tests/unit_node/tls_test.ts
to exercise this change, but the test fails for me on `main` on Linux. I
investigated briefly and noticed that the test fixture
`cli/tests/testdata/tls/localhost.crt` doesn't appear to include the
`subjectAltName` specified in `domains.txt`. I believe the certificate
isn't matching `localhost`, but that's where I ended investigating.
This commit refactors how we access "core", "internals" and
"primordials" objects coming from `deno_core`, in our internal JavaScript code.
Instead of capturing them from "globalThis.__bootstrap" namespace, we
import them from recently added "ext:core/mod.js" file.
Add support for signing with a RSA PEM private key: `pkcs8` and `pkcs1`.

Switch `ext/fetch` over to `resourceForReadableStream` to simplify and
unify implementation with `ext/serve`. This allows us to work in Rust
with resources only.
Two additional changes made to `resourceForReadableStream` were
required:
- Add an optional length to `resourceForReadableStream` which translates
to `size_hint`
- Fix a bug where writing to a closed stream that was full would panic
We only want one zlib dependency.
Zlib dependencies are reorganized so they use a hidden
`__vendored_zlib_ng` flag in cli that enables zlib-ng for both libz-sys
(used by ext/node) and flate2 (used by deno_web).
This is the release commit being forwarded back to main for 1.38.1

This commit improves "node:http2" module implementation, by enabling
to use "options.createConnection" callback when starting an HTTP2
session.
This change enables to pass basic client-side test with "grpc-js/grpc"
package.
Smaller fixes like "Http2Session.unref()" and "Http2Session.setTimeout()"
were handled as well.

The error caused by `base64urlWrite` function, it should call
`forgivingBase64UrlDecode` not `forgivingBase64UrlEncode`

This commit adds "deno jupyter" subcommand which
provides a Deno kernel for Jupyter notebooks.
The implementation is mostly based on Deno's REPL and
reuses large parts of it (though there's some clean up that
needs to happen in follow up PRs). Not all functionality of
Jupyter kernel is implemented and some message type
are still not implemented (eg. "inspect_request") but
the kernel is fully working and provides all the capatibilities
that the Deno REPL has; including TypeScript transpilation
and npm packages support.

This commit improves compatibility of "node:http2" module by polyfilling
"connect" method and "ClientHttp2Session" class. Basic operations like
streaming, header and trailer handling are working correctly.
Refing/unrefing is still a TODO and "npm:grpc-js/grpc" is not yet working

In that issue, I suggest switching over the other brotli functionality
to the Rust API provided by the `brotli` crate. Here, I only do that
with the `brotli_decompress` function to fix the bug with buffers longer
than 4096 bytes.
When trying to run

in my Astro project it fails with:

Bumping the version to the latest stable Release of node in
`ext/node/polyfills/_process/process.ts` fixes this.
I don't know if this causes any conflicts, so please feel free to
correct me here.
The fix for #20188 was not entirely correct -- we were unlocking the
global buffer incorrectly. This PR introduces a lock state that ensures
we only unlock a lock we have taken out.

The goal of this PR is to address issue #20106 where a `TypeError`
occurs when the variables `uid` and `gid` from `userInfo()` in `node:os`
are reassigned if the user is on Windows. Both `uid` and `gid` are
marked as `const` therefore producing a `TypeError` when the two are
reassigned.
This PR achieves that goal by marking `uid` and `gid` as `let`
To fix bugs around detection of when node emulation is required, we will
just eagerly initialize it. The improvements we make to reduce the
impact of the startup time:
- [x] Process stdin/stdout/stderr are lazily created
- [x] node.js global proxy no longer allocates on each access check
- [x] Process checks for `beforeExit` listeners before doing expensive
shutdown work
- [x] Process should avoid adding global event handlers until listeners
are added

Rename some of the helper methods on the Fs trait to be suffixed with
`_sync` / `_async`, in preparation of the introduction of more async
methods for some helpers.
Also adds a `read_text_file_async` helper to complement the renamed
`read_text_file_sync` helper.
Closes #19399 (running without snapshots at all was suggested as an
alternative solution).
Adds a `__runtime_js_sources` pseudo-private feature to load extension
JS sources at runtime for faster development, instead of building and
loading snapshots or embedding sources in the binary. Will only work in
a development environment obviously.
Try running `cargo test --features __runtime_js_sources
integration::node_unit_tests::os_test`. Then break some behaviour in
`ext/node/polyfills/os.ts` e.g. make `function cpus() {}` return an
empty array, and run it again. Fix and then run again. No more build
time in between.
This is a prerequisite for fast streams work -- this particular resource
used a custom `mpsc`-style stream, and this work will allow us to unify
it with the streams in `ext/http` in time.
Instead of using Option as an internal semaphore for "correctly
completed EOF", we allow code to propagate errors into the channel which
can be picked up by downstream sinks like Hyper. EOF is signalled using
a more standard sender drop.
This commit provides basic polyfill for "node:test" module. Currently
only top-level "test" function is polyfilled, all remaining functions from
that module throw not implemented errors.
V8 doesn't like having internal slots on the "real" globalThis object.
This commit works around this limitation by storing the inner globalThis
objects for segregated globals in a context slot.
Code run within Deno-mode and Node-mode should have access to a
slightly different set of globals. Previously this was done through a
compile time code-transform for Node-mode, but this is not ideal and has
many edge cases, for example Node's globalThis having a different
identity than Deno's globalThis.
This commit makes the `globalThis` of the entire runtime a semi-proxy.
This proxy returns a different set of globals depending on the caller's
mode. This is not a full proxy, because it is shadowed by "real"
properties on globalThis. This is done to avoid the overhead of a full
proxy for all globalThis operations.
The globals between Deno-mode and Node-mode are now properly segregated.
This means that code running in Deno-mode will not have access to Node's
globals, and vice versa. Deleting a managed global in Deno-mode will
NOT delete the corresponding global in Node-mode, and vice versa.

This makes the implementation of "AsyncLocalStorage" from
"node:async_hooks" 3.5x faster than before for noop benchmark
(measuring baseline overhead). It's still 3.5x slower than not
using `AsyncLocalStorage` and 1.64x slower than using
noop promise hooks.

Values are not coerced to the desired type during deserialisation. This
makes serde_v8 stricter.

`ZeroCopyBuf` was convenient to use, but sometimes it did hide details
that some copies were necessary in certain cases. Also it made it way to easy
for the caller to pass around and convert into different values. This commit
splits `ZeroCopyBuf` into `JsBuffer` (an array buffer coming from V8) and
`ToJsBuffer` (a Rust buffer that will be converted into a V8 array buffer).
As a result some magical conversions were removed (they were never used)
limiting the API surface and preparing for changes in #19534.
This commit adds basic support for "node:http2" module. Not
all APIs have been yet implemented, but this change already
allows to use this module for some basic functions.
The "grpc" package is still not working, but it's a good stepping
stone.

Internally, `node-tap` spawns a child process with `stdio: [0, 1, 2]`.
Whilst we don't support passing fd numbers as an argument so far, it
turns out that `[0, 1, 2]` is equivalent to `"inherit"` which we already
support. See: https://nodejs.org/api/child_process.html#optionsstdio
Mapping it to `"inherit"` is fine for us and gets us one step closer in
getting `node-tap` working. I'm now at the stage where already the
coverage table is shown 🎉

Node's fs/promises includes a FileHandle class, but deno does not. The
open function in Node's fs/promises returns a FileHandle, which provides
an IO interface to the file. However, deno's open function returns a
resource id.

This PR adds the missing `process.reallyExit()` method to node's
`process` object.

regarding running the `fastify` test suite in node. They use `node-tap`
which has been around arguably the longest of the test frameworks and
relies on a couple of old APIs. They have `signal-exit` as a dependency
which in turn [makes use of
`process.reallyExit()`](8fa7fc9a9c/src/index.ts (L19)).
That function cannot be found anywhere in their documentation, but
exists at runtime. See
6a6b3c5402/lib/internal/bootstrap/node.js (L172)
This doesn't yet make `node-tap` work, but gets us one step closer.
Rather than disallowing `ext:` resolution, clear the module map after
initializing extensions so extension modules are anonymized. This
operation is explicitly called in `deno_runtime`. Re-inject `node:`
specifiers into the module map after doing this.
Fixes #17717.
This commit fixes emitting "unhandledrejection" event when there are
"node:" or "npm:" imports.
Before this commit the Node "unhandledRejection" event was emitted
using a regular listener for Web "unhandledrejection" event. This
listener was installed before any user listener had a chance to be
installed which effectively prevent emitting "unhandledrejection"
events to user code.

Noticed that we're checking more module paths than necessary. In
particular the module path array contains a couple of entries with a
duplicated `node_modules/node_modules` suffix.

This was caused by a misunderstanding in how Rust's
[`Path::ends_with()`](https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/path/struct.Path.html#method.ends_with)
works. It's designed to match on whole path segments and the suffix
`/node_modules` is not that, except for the root entry. This meant that
our check for if the path already ended with `node_module` always
returned `false`. Removing the leading slash fixes that.
While we're at it, we can remove the last condition where we explicitly
added the root `/node_modules` entry since the while loop prior to that
takes care of it already.
This commit changes implementation of "setImmediate"
from "node:timers" module to 0ms timer that is never
clamped to 4ms no matter how many nested calls there are.

to instead return a `Deno.Server` object that has a `finished` field.

This is a bit bare bones but gets `npm-run-all` working. For full stdio
compatibility with node more work is needed which is probably better
done in follow up PRs.

This commit shams "performance.markResourceTiming" API by
using a noop function. It is done to provide compatibility with
"npm:undici" package. We should look into actually implementing
this API properly, but I wanted to unblock support for "undici" and
"astro" for now.

This migrates `spawn` and `spawn_blocking` to `deno_core`, and removes
the requirement for `spawn` tasks to be `Send` given our single-threaded
executor.
While we don't need to technically do anything w/`spawn_blocking`, this
allows us to have a single `JoinHandle` type that works for both cases,
and allows us to more easily experiment with alternative
`spawn_blocking` implementations that do not require tokio (ie: rayon).

by canonicalizing them when resolving. This is done so that instead
of returning
"node_modules/<package_name>@<version>/node_modules/<dep>/index.js"

Migrates some of existing async ops to generated wrappers introduced in
https://github.com/denoland/deno/pull/18887. As a result "core.opAsync2"
was removed.
I will follow up with more PRs that migrate all the async ops to
generated wrappers.

`safe`, `add` and `rem` options are not implemented because there is no
rust crate that provides this functionality (except rust-openssl maybe)
and its just not clear if this API is used widely.
This commit fixes "node:http" API to properly handle "upgrade"
requests and thus marking Vite work again.
This is done by migrating back to "Deno.serve()" and internal
"upgradeHttpRaw" APIs for "node:http" module polyfill.
We can make `NodePermissions` rely on interior mutability (which the
`PermissionsContainer` is already doing) in order to not have to clone
everything all the time. This also reduces the chance of an accidental
`borrow` while `borrrow_mut`.
We were indeterministically including packages in the top level
`node_modules/` folder when using a local node_modules directory. This
change aligns with pnpm and only includes top level packages in this
folder. This should be faster for initializing the folder, but may
expose issues in packages that reference other packages not defined in
their dependencies. That said, the behaviour previously was previously
broken.
This has exposed a bug in the require implementation where it doesn't
find a package (which is the main underlying issue here). There is a
failing test already for this in the test suite after this change.

This is just a straight refactor and I didn't do any cleanup in
ext/node. After this PR we can start to clean it up and make things
private that don't need to be public anymore.

This commit implements the keypair generation for asymmetric keys for
the `generateKeyPair` API.
