This commit adds new options to unstable "Deno.createHttpClient" API.
"proxy" and "basicAuth" options were added that allow to use custom proxy
when client instance is passed to "fetch" API.
This commit renames "JsRuntime::execute" to "JsRuntime::execute_script". Additionally
same renames were applied to methods on "deno_runtime::Worker" and
"deno_runtime::WebWorker".
A new macro was added to "deno_core" called "located_script_name" which
returns the name of Rust file alongside line no and col no of that call site.
This macro is useful in combination with "JsRuntime::execute_script"
and allows to provide accurate place where "one-off" JavaScript scripts
are executed for internal runtime functions.

This commit changes module loading implementation in "deno_core"
to call "ModuleLoader::prepare" hook only once per entry point.
This is done to avoid multiple type checking of the same code
in case of duplicated dynamic imports.
Relevant code in "cli/module_graph.rs" was updated as well.
This commit updates type declarations for Worker to accept specifiers
as either strings or URL, bringing it in line with TypeScript
declarations and browser behavior.
This commit adds a new `--parent-pid <pid>` flag to `deno lsp` that when provided starts a task that checks for the existence of the provided process id (ex. vscode's) every 30 seconds. If the process doesn't exist (meaning the deno process has nothing interacting with it), then it terminates itself.
This commit changes "op_http_response_write" to first send response chunk
and then poll the underlying HTTP connection.
Previously after writing a chunk of response HTTP connection wasn't polled
and thus data wasn't written to the socket until after next op interacting
with the connection.
Waiting on next request in Deno.serveHttp() API hanged
when responses were using ReadableStream. This was caused
by op_http_request_next op that was never woken after
response was fully written. This commit adds waker field to
DenoService which is called after response is finished.
This commit removes all JS based text encoding / text decoding. Instead
encoding now happens in Rust via encoding_rs (already in tree). This
implementation retains stream support, but adds the last missing
encodings. We are incredibly close to 100% WPT on text encoding now.
This should reduce our baseline heap by quite a bit.
This commit adds "CancelHandle" to "ConnResource" and changes
"op_http_next_request" to await for the cancel signal. In turn
when async iterating over "Deno.HttpConn" the iterator breaks
upon closing of the resource.
This speeds up incremental rebuild when only touching JS files by 30%
compared to #10786.
Rebuild time after touch 01_broadcast_channel.js:
main: run 1 49.18s, run 2 50.34s

This commit moves implementation of "JsRuntimeInspector" to "deno_core" crate.
To achieve that following changes were made:
* "Worker" and "WebWorker" no longer own instance of "JsRuntimeInspector",
instead it is now owned by "deno_core::JsRuntime".
* Consequently polling of inspector is no longer done in "Worker"/"WebWorker",
instead it's done in "deno_core::JsRuntime::poll_event_loop".
* "deno_core::JsRuntime::poll_event_loop" and "deno_core::JsRuntime::run_event_loop",
now accept "wait_for_inspector" boolean that tells if event loop should still be
"pending" if there are active inspector sessions - this change fixes the problem
that inspector disconnects from the frontend and process exits once the code has
stopped executing.
This commit refactors implementation of inspector.
The intention is to be able to move inspector implementation to "deno_core".
Following things were done to make that possible:
* "runtime/inspector.rs" was split into "runtime/inspector/mod.rs"
and "runtime/inspector/server.rs", separating inspector implementation
from Websocket server implementation.
* "DenoInspector" was renamed to "JsRuntimeInspector" and reference to "server"
was removed from the structure, making it independent of Websocket server
used to connect to Chrome Devtools.
* "WebsocketSession" was renamed to "InspectorSession" and rewritten in such
a way that it's not tied to Websockets anymore; instead it accepts a pair
of "proxy" channel ends that allow to integrate the session with different
"transports".
* "InspectorSession" was renamed to "LocalInspectorSession" to better indicate
that it's an "in-memory" session and doesn't require Websocket server. It was
also rewritten in such a way that it uses "InspectorSession" from previous point
instead of reimplementing "v8::inspector::ChannelImpl" trait; this is done by using
the "proxy" channels to communicate with the V8 session.
Consequently "LocalInspectorSession" is now a frontend to "InspectorSession". This
introduces a small inconvenience that awaiting responses for "LocalInspectorSession" requires
to concurrently poll worker's event loop. This arises from the fact that "InspectorSession"
is now owned by "JsRuntimeInspector", which in turn is owned by "Worker" or "WebWorker".
To ease this situation "Worker::with_event_loop" helper method was added, that takes
a future and concurrently polls it along with the event loop (using "tokio::select!" macro
inside a loop).
Replaces the file-backed provider by an in-memory one because proper
file locking is a hard problem that detracts from the proof of concept.
Teach the WPT runner how to extract tests from .html files because all
the relevant tests in test_util/wpt/webmessaging/broadcastchannel are
inside basics.html and interface.html.
In #9118, TLS streams were split into a "read half" and a "write half"
using tokio::io::split() to allow concurrent Conn#read() and
Conn#write() calls without one blocking the other. However, this
introduced a bug: outgoing data gets discarded when the TLS stream is
gracefully closed, because the read half is closed too early, before all
TLS control data has been received.

Currently file passed to --config file is parsed using TsConfig structure
that does multiple things when loading the file. Instead of relying on that
structure I've introduced ConfigFile structure that can be updated to
sniff out more fields from the config file in the future.
This commit implements file watching for deno test.
When a file is changed, only the test modules which
use it as a dependency are rerun.
This is accomplished by reworking the file watching infrastructure
to pass the paths which have changed to the resolver, and then
constructing a module graph for each test module to check if it
contains any changed files.
`Deno.core.*` is unstable and not fit for public consumption, although this is a somewhat internal bench some people may use it as reference code and start using `Deno.core.encode()` in their own code
Makes the codebase more searchable and helps distinguish op functions from helper functions
Besides tests/examples/benches this pattern appears to be used everywhere else in the codebase
Fixes a pesky bug in the fetch implementation where if the init part is
specified in `fetch` instead of the `Request` constructor, the
fillHeaders function receives two references to the same object, causing
it to append to the same list being iterated over.
This commit adds support for running test in parallel.
Entire test runner functionality has been rewritten
from JavaScript to Rust and a set of ops was added to support reporting in Rust.
A new "--jobs" flag was added to "deno test" that allows to configure
how many threads will be used. When given no value it defaults to 2.
Extensions allow declarative extensions to "JsRuntime" (ops, state, JS or middleware).
This allows for:
- `op_crates` to be plug-and-play & self-contained, reducing complexity leaked to consumers
- op middleware (like metrics_op) to be opt-in and for new middleware (unstable, tracing,...)
- `MainWorker` and `WebWorker` to be composable, allowing users to extend workers with their ops whilst benefiting from the other infrastructure (inspector, etc...)
In short extensions improve deno's modularity, reducing complexity and leaky abstractions for embedders and the internal codebase.
General cleanup of module loading code, tried to reduce indentation in various methods
on "JsRuntime" to improve readability.
Added "JsRuntime::handle_scope" helper function, which returns a "v8::HandleScope".
This was done to reduce a code pattern that happens all over the "deno_core".
Additionally if event loop hangs during loading of dynamic modules a list of
currently pending dynamic imports is printed.
`InvalidDNSNameError` is thrown when a string is not a valid hostname,
e.g. it contains invalid characters, or starts with a numeric digit. It
does not involve a (failed) DNS lookup.
denort is an optimization to "deno compile" to produce slightly smaller
output. It's a decent idea, but causes a lot of negative side-effects:
- Deno's link time is a source of constant agony both locally and in CI,
denort doubles link time.
- The release process is a long and arduous undertaking with many manual
steps. denort necessitates an additional manual zip + upload from M1
apple computers.
- The "deno compile" interface is complicated with the "--lite" option.
This is confusing for uses ("why wouldn't you want lite?").
The benefits of this feature do not outweigh the negatives. We must find
a different approach to optimizing "deno compile" output.
This commits adds adds "permissions" option to the test definitions
which allows tests to run with different permission sets than
the process's permission.
The change will only be in effect within the test function, once the
test has completed the original process permission set is restored.
Test permissions cannot exceed the process's permission.
You can only narrow or drop permissions, failure to acquire a
permission results in an error being thrown and the test case will fail.
Even if bootstrapping the JS runtime is low level, it's an abstraction leak of
core to require users to call `Deno.core.ops()` in JS space.
So instead we're introducing a `JsRuntime::sync_ops_cache()` method,
once we have runtime extensions a new runtime will ensure the ops
cache is setup (for the provided extensions) and then loading/unloading
plugins should be the only operations that require op cache syncs
- register builtin v8 errors in core.js so consumers don't have to
- remove complexity of error args handling (consumers must provide a
constructor with custom args, core simply provides msg arg)
This commit aligns the `fetch` API and the `Request` / `Response`
classes belonging to it to the spec. This commit enables all the
relevant `fetch` WPT tests. Spec compliance is now at around 90%.
Performance is essentially identical now (within 1% of 1.9.0).
This commit fixes the URL returned from `request.url` in the HTTP server
to be fully qualified. This previously existed, but was removed and
accidentially not readded during optimizations of the HTTP ops.
Returning a non fully qualified URL from `Request#url` is not spec
compliant.
The panic was caused by the lack of an error class mapping for
futures::channel::TrySendError, but it shouldn't have been throwing an error in
the first place - when a worker has terminated, postMessage should just return.
The issue was that the termination message hadn't yet been recieved, so it was
carrying on with trying to send the message. This adds another check on the Rust
side for if the channel is closed, and if it is the worker is treated as
terminated.
This commit aligns `Headers` to spec. It also removes the now unused
03_dom_iterable.js file. We now pass all relevant `Headers` WPT. We do
not implement any sort of header filtering, as we are a server side
runtime.
This is likely not the most efficient implementation of `Headers` yet.
It is however spec compliant. Once all the APIs in the `HTTP` hot loop
are correct we can start optimizing them. It is likely that this commit
reduces bench throughput temporarily.
Raise the soft limit to the hard limit when possible. This is similar
to what Node.js does to avoid running into "out of file descriptors"
errors too quickly.
On most Linux systems, raises the limit from 1,024 to 1,048,576.
On most macOS systems, raises the limit from 256 to 10,240.

This stabilizes Deno.ftruncate and Deno.ftruncateSync.
This is a well known system call and the interface is
not going to change. Implicitly requires write permissions
as the file has to be opened with write to be truncated.
This commit adds allowlist support to `--allow-run` flag.
Additionally `Deno.permissions.query()` allows to query for specific
programs within allowlist.
This commit adds blob URL support. Blob URLs are stored in a process
global storage, that can be accessed from all workers, and the module
loader. Blob URLs can be created using `URL.createObjectURL` and revoked
using `URL.revokeObjectURL`.
This commit does not add support for `fetch`ing blob URLs. This will be
added in a follow up commit.
This commit marks the `Deno.iter` and `Deno.iterSync` utils as
deprecated, and schedules them for removal in Deno 2.0. These
utilities are implemented in pure JS, so should not be part of the
Deno namespace.
These utilities are now available in std/io/util:
denoland/deno_std#843.
This commit marks the `Deno.Buffer` / `Deno.readAll` /
`Deno.readAllSync` / `Deno.writeAll` / `Deno.writeAllSync` utils as
deprecated, and schedules them for removal in Deno 2.0. These
utilities are implemented in pure JS, so should not be part of the
Deno namespace.
These utilities are now available in std/io/buffer and std/io/util:

This additionallty removes all internal dependance on Deno.Buffer.
- Improves op performance.
- Handle op-metadata (errors, promise IDs) explicitly in the op-layer vs
per op-encoding (aka: out-of-payload).
- Remove shared queue & custom "asyncHandlers", all async values are
returned in batches via js_recv_cb.
- The op-layer should be thought of as simple function calls with little
indirection or translation besides the conceptually straightforward
serde_v8 bijections.
- Preserve concepts of json/bin/min as semantic groups of their
inputs/outputs instead of their op-encoding strategy, preserving these
groups will also facilitate partial transitions over to v8 Fast API for the
"min" and "bin" groups
This commit moves implementation of bin ops to "deno_core" crates
as well as unifying logic between bin ops and json ops to reuse
as much code as possible (both in Rust and JavaScript).
This patch doesn't actually fix the bug I was hoping to fix, which is
that `update_diagnostics()` sometimes gets called even when there are
more updates that should be processed first. I did eventually figure out
that this issue is caused by Tokio's cooperative yielding, which
currently can't be disabled.
However overall it makes the debounce code somewhat more readable IMO,
which is why I'm suggesting to land it anyway.
Change `Console.#printFunc` to pass a log level as the second argument
(0 = debug, 3 = error), instead of a boolean for `isErr`. This does not
change the Deno runtime behaviour at all.
This commit rewrites "dispatch_minimal" into "dispatch_buffer".
It's part of an effort to unify JS interface for ops for both json
and minimal (buffer) ops.
Before this commit "minimal ops" could be either sync or async
depending on the return type from the op, but this commit changes
it to have separate signatures for sync and async ops (just like
in case of json ops).
This commit starts splitting out the deno_web op crate into multiple
smaller crates. This commit splits out WebIDL and URL API, but in the
future I want to split out each spec into its own crate. That means we
will have (in rough order of loading): `webidl`, `dom`, `streams`,
`console`, `encoding`, `url`, `file`, `fetch`, `websocket`, and
`webgpu` crates.
This commit rewrites implementation of "JsRuntime::mod_evaluate".
Event loop is no longer polled automatically and users must manually
drive event loop forward after calling "mod_evaluate".

align it to current revision of the spec.
Existing tests were removed in favor of using suite from
WPT.
This commit changes formatting of JS errors; by not showing
source lines for internal code. Where possible, instead using
the top stack frame associated with user code i.e. the first
location that is colourful and not a "deno:" URL.
This commit makes "Deno.link" and "Deno.linkSync" stable.
The permission required has been changed to read-write to
ensure one cannot escape the sandbox.
This commit adds support for type definitions in "deno doc";
with this change "deno doc" is able to leverage the same directives
as TS compiler.

This commit adds a new subcommand called "coverage"
which can generate code coverage reports to stdout in
multiple formats from code coverage profiles collected to disk.
Currently this supports outputting a pretty printed diff and
the lcov format for interoperability with third-party services and tools.
Code coverage is still collected via other subcommands
that run and collect code coverage such as
"deno test --coverage=<directory>" but that command no
longer prints a pretty printed report at the end of a test
run with coverage collection enabled.
The restrictions on which files that can be reported on has
also been relaxed and are fully controllable with the include
and exclude regular expression flags on the coverage subcommand.

This commit removes redundant "--reload" args because "util::deno_cmd"
recreates "DENO_DIR".
This commit also fixes ta_reload in integration tests to actually test reload.
This adds an exit sanitizer to ensure that code being tested or
dependencies of that code can't accidentally call "Deno.exit"
leading to partial test runs and false results.
This commit rewrites "JsRuntime::poll" function to fix a corner case that
might caused "overflown_response" to be overwritten by other overflown response.
The logic has been changed to allow returning multiple overflown response
alongside responses from shared queue.
This PR deprecates the "--ts"/"-T" flag of "deno eval" (which will later be removed in 2.0)
and introduces "--ext" which is used by "deno fmt" for content type selection.
This is to ensure we have a single flag that can be used across subcommands
to select the language (JS/TS).
Currently if WebSocket is closed without code, it will error
while on Chrome it would close with code 1005 instead.

This commit adds support for formatting JSON and JSONC
in "deno fmt".
New values "json" and "jsonc" are added to "--ext" flag for
standard input processing.
This commit adds support for loading import maps from URLs,
both remote and local.
This feature is supported in CLI flag as well as in runtime
compiler API.
This PR makes json_op_sync/async generic to all Deserialize/Serialize types
instead of the loosely-typed serde_json::Value. Since serde_json::Value
implements Deserialize/Serialize, very little existing code needs to be updated,
however as json_op_sync/async are now generic, type inference is broken in some
cases (see cli/build.rs:146). I've found this reduces a good bit of boilerplate,
as seen in the updated deno_core examples.
This change may also reduce serialization and deserialization overhead as serde
has a better idea of what types it is working with. I am currently working on
benchmarks to confirm this and I will update this PR with my findings.
When we migrated away from all the locks, there was a regression that
was not caught immediately. The tsc::get_asset() would attempt to modify
the snapshot, but the problem was that the snapshot was a .clone() of
the inner language server's assets, which meant that modifications to
that where lost. When we then attempted to do a hover on those assets,
the inner language servers assets didn't have the retrieved asset, and
therefore would throw an error.
Commit 2828690fc ("fix(lsp): fix deadlocks, use one big mutex") from
last month introduced a regression in asset cache lookups where results
of lazy caching were lost due to operating on a copy of the asset cache.
This commit fixes that by copying the asset from the copy to the real
cache.
The mutex was used to hide the fact that the Sources object mutates
itself when it's queried. Be honest about that and mark everything that
directly or indirectly mutates it as `mut`.
This is a follow-up to commit 2828690fc7
from last month ("fix(lsp): fix deadlocks, use one big mutex (#9271)")
Include the lower-level error message in the generic error message.
No test because I can't actually make it fail by passing it bad PEM.
I checked and `reqwest::Certificate::from_pem()` always returns `Ok()`.
Fixes #9364.
This removes the std folder from the tree.
Various parts of the tests are pretty tightly dependent
on std (47 direct imports and 75 indirect imports, not
counting the cli tests that use them as fixtures) so I've
added std as a submodule for now.
This commit reorganises cli/tests/integration_tests.rs.
All integration tests had been moved into integration module,
which allows to run only integration tests by "cargo test integration".
Additionally some tests were further grouped under nested modules
like "inspector", "file_watcher" or "repl".
This commits makes use of source maps and the original source
when printing lacking line coverage in the pretty printer.
Only the executable lines are checked as before (as non-executable
lines will always be ignored anyways). The lines then mapped to the
appropriate source line when a source map is present.
The LSP code had numerous places where competing threads could take out
out locks in different orders, making it very prone to deadlocks.
This commit sidesteps the entire issue by switching to a single lock.
The above is a little white lie: the Sources struct still uses a mutex
internally to avoid having to boil the ocean (because being honest about
what it does involves changing all its methods to `&mut self` but that
ripples out extensively...) I'll save that one for another day.
This commit adds support for formatting markdown files with "deno fmt".
Additionally "--ext={js|jsx|ts|tsx|md}" flag was added to "deno fmt"
that allows to specify file type when providing contents over stdio.
This commit adds --target and --lite flags to deno compile subcommand.
--target allows to cross-compile binary to different target architectures by
fetching appropriate binary from remote server on first run. All downloaded
binaries are stored in "$DENO_DIR/dl".
--lite allows to use lite version of the runtime (ie. the one that doesn't contain
built-in tooling like formatter or linter).
Previously, calling `Process#kill()` after the process had exited would
sometimes throw a `TypeError` on Windows. After this patch, it will
throw `NotFound` instead, just like other platforms.
This patch also fixes flakiness of the `runKillAfterStatus` test on
Windows.

This commit fixes hang in web workers occuring when sending
"undefined" as message value. It is a temporary band-aid
until proper structured close is implemented.

When we were doing single process in-memory reports getting the source
from the runtime was practical, but now that we're writing to disk this
conflicts with the format tools taking raw v8 coverage dumps expect.
This commit adds new option to "Worker" Web API that allows to
configure permissions.
New "Worker.deno.permissions" option can be used to define limited
permissions to the worker thread by either:
- inherit set of parent thread permissions
- use limited subset of parent thread permissions
- revoke all permissions (full sandbox)
In order to achieve this functionality "CliModuleLoader"
was modified to accept "initial permissions", which are used
for top module loading (ie. uses parent thread permission set
to load top level module of a worker).
This commit removes "js" module from "cli".
It contained stuff related to TypeScript compiler (snapshot,
declaration files) and thus it was moved to "tsc" module.
This commit rewrites initialisation of the "shared queue" and
in effect prevents from double execution of "core/core.js" and
"core/error.js".
Previously both of these files were executed every time a "JsRuntime"
was created. That lead to a situation where one copy of each script
was included in the snapshot and then another copy would be
executed after loading the snapshot.
Effectively "JsRuntime::shared_init" was removed; instead execution
of those scripts and actual initialisation of shared queue
was split into two helper functions: "JsRuntime::js_init" and
"JsRuntime::share_queue_init".
Additionally stale TODO comments were removed.
Merging multiple runs isn't quite right because we
rely on a 0 count to signal that a block hasn't been called.
Other tools like c8 expect this to be true as-well so we
need to do our best to merge coverage files rather
than duplicating them.
The child process kept running and printing "hello" to stdout.
This commit also removes the dependency on reqwest and instead
switches to the re-export from the fetch crate.
Brings back commit 1a2e7741c3.

Fix bug in regular expression and make the regular expression more
strict.
In a string passed to new RegExp(), '[\t\s]' is identical to '[ts]' and
not `/[\t\s]/`. For that, the backslash needs to be escaped in the
string. Futhermore, `\t` is the tab character and is included in the
special regexp value `\s` so is unnecessary.
That would reduce the RegExp to new RegExp(`^${value}\\s*;?`) but
there's no point in matching 0 or more space characters followed by 0 or
one semi-colons as that will match no matter what follows `value`.
To make it more strict, require one of space, semicolon, or
end-of-string after value.
Allowlist checking already uses hosts but for some reason
requests, revokes and the runtime permissions API use URLs.
- BREAKING(lib.deno.unstable.d.ts): Change
NetPermissionDescriptor::url to NetPermissionDescriptor::host
- fix(runtime/permissions): Don't add whole URLs to the
allowlist on request
- fix(runtime/permissions): Harden strength semantics:
({ name: "net", host: "127.0.0.1" } is stronger than
{ name: "net", host: "127.0.0.1:8000" }) for blocklisting
- refactor(runtime/permissions): Use tuples for hosts, make
the host optional in Permissions::{query_net, request_net, revoke_net}()
This PR refactors "cli/flags.rs" and "runtime/permissions.rs" so
that "allow_read", "allow_write" and "allow_net" themselves
have allowlists, instead of storing them in additional fields.
This commit rewrites "chown_test.ts" to use the GNU "id" command
instead of python. This won't work on Windows, but these tests aren't
currently run on Windows anyway.
Implementors of `deno_core::JsRuntime` might want to do additional actions
during each turn of event loop, eg. `deno_runtime::Worker` polls inspector,
`deno_runtime::WebWorker` receives/dispatches messages from/to worker host.
Previously `JsRuntime::mod_evaluate` was implemented in such fashion that it
only polled `JsRuntime`'s event loop. This behavior turned out to be wrong
in the example of `WebWorker` which couldn't receive/dispatch messages because
its implementation of event loop was never called.
This commit rewrites "mod_evaluate" to return a handle to receiver that resolves
when module's promise resolves. It is now implementors responsibility to poll
event loop after calling `mod_evaluate`.
This commit migrates all ops to use new resource table
and "AsyncRefCell".
Old implementation of resource table was completely
removed and all code referencing it was updated to use
new system.
This commit moves Deno JS runtime, ops, permissions and
inspector implementation to new "deno_runtime" crate located
in "runtime/" directory.

This commit does major refactor of "Worker" and "WebWorker",
in order to decouple them from "ProgramState" and "Flags".
The main points of interest are "create_main_worker()" and
"create_web_worker_callback()" functions which are responsible
for creating "Worker" and "WebWorker" in CLI context.
As a result it is now possible to factor out common "runtime"
functionality into a separate crate.
This commit adds "Deno.core.createPrepareStackTrace". This function
was moved from "cli/rt/40_error_stack.js" to unify handling of stack frames in core
(before this PR there was implicit dependency on logic in "core/error.rs::JsError").
Unfortunately formatting logic must still be duplicated in "cli/error.js::PrettyJsError"
to provide coloring, but currently there's no solution to this problem.
"createPrepareStackTrace" can accept a single argument; a function that takes
a location and provides source mapped location back.
This commit disables source mapping of errors
for standalone binaries. Since applying source
maps relies on using file fetcher infrastructure
it's not feasible to use it for standalone binaries
that are not supposed to use that infrastructure.
This commit makes the file watcher continue to work even if module
resolution fails at the initial attempt, allowing us to execute `run`
or `bundle` subcommand when a script has invalid syntax. In such
cases, the watcher observes a single file that is specified as an
command line argument.
Fixes panic occurring in worker when "self.close()" is called
at the top level, ie. worker shuts down while
module evaluation promise hasn't yet resolved.
This commit fixes order of events for "onload" event.
Previously handler attached using "window.onload" was
always fired before handlers added using "addEventListener".
Factored out "init_v8_flags", "init_logger" and
"get_subcommand" from "main" function.
Also "Worker" was removed in favor of moving
logic to "MainWorker" and "WebWorker" respectively.
This commit removes unnecessary conversion into BTreeMap. The value
that gets converted into BTreeMap is _originally_ BTreeMap, so this
conversion is just superfluous.
Additionally, a test is added so that we can make sure the keys in the
emitted lockfile are sorted alphabetically.
This commit adds support for "--watch" flag for "bundle"
and "fmt" subcommands.
In addition to this, it refactors "run --watch" command so that
module resolution will occur every time the file watcher detects
file addition/deletion, which allows the watcher to observe a file
that is newly added to the dependency as well.
This commit does major overhaul of "upgrade" subcommand,
reducing complexity & giving more sensible console output.

This commit simplifies code responsible for serialization
of web worker events. Instead of using "PrettyJsError"
it's enough to downcast to "deno_core::JsError", making
the code less specific to cli/ implementation.
This commit renames "fmt_errors::JsError" to "PrettyJsError"
to avoid confusion with "deno_core::JsError".
Consequently "CoreJsError" aliases to "deno_core::JsError"
were removed.
Additionally source mapping step has been removed from
"PrettyJsError::create" to better separate domains.

This commit renames "fs" module in "cli/" to "fs_util". This is purely
cosmetic change; there were a few places which aliased "crate::fs"
to "deno_fs" which was very confusing with "fs" module in ops.
This commit merges implementations of "collect_files" and "files_in_subtree",
leaving only the former. Additionally it was ensured that directories are not yielded
from this function.
This commit reworks "collect_files" utility to accept "ignore" parameter
which allows to filter out files in a single iteration instead of walking
file tree second time to excude "ignored" files.
This commit rewrites scripts in "tools/" directory
to use Deno instead of Python. In return it allows
to remove huge number of Python packages in "third_party/".
This commit removes ProgramState::permissions field.
Having permissions parsed from CLI flags stored on globally
accessible state object made it easy to mistakenly use these
permissions in situations which required "runtime" permissions.
This commit rewrites file watcher used with --watch flag.
Instead of creating new watcher after each restart, only a single
watcher is created for whole process. Additionally debouncing
mechanism has been added to prevent infinite restart loops
if multiple files were changed in quick succession.

Previously, entering a single ']' would cause repl to forever accepting
new lines, due to that `ValidationResult::Invalid` would actually be
consumed by the editor itself while continue building the lines. Instead
we should mark it as `Valid` and send the bad input for evaluation to
get the proper error from V8.

This commit renames two assertion functions to better align with JS API:
- assertStringContains -> assertStringIncludes
- assertArrayContains -> assertArrayIncludes
This changes the behavior of keyboard interrupts (ctrl+c) to continue,
clearing the current line instead of exiting.
Exit can still be done with ctrl+d or by calling close().
This writes all evaluaton results to stdout regardless if the result is
an error or not.
This matches the behavior of other read-eval-print-loops like Node.
This commit fixes test runner by awaitning "Deno.runTests()" call,
which ensures proper error is returned when there's an unresolved
promise that's being awaited.
This extracts prelude injection into a helper function and moves the
prelude string literal into a top level static string to help trim some
of the fat out of the run function.
This commit changes implementation of top-level-await in "deno_core".
Previously promise returned from module evaluation was not awaited,
leading to out-of-order execution of modules that have TLA. It's been
fixed by changing "JsRuntime::mod_evaluate" to be an async function
that resolves when the promise returned from module evaluation also
resolves. When waiting for promise resolution event loop is polled
repeatedly, until there are no more dynamic imports or pending
ops.
This commit fixes the inspection of functions. The current
implementation gets the name of the type of the function
from "f.__proto__.constructor.name", and it throws when
the prototype is set to null.
This commit checks the prototype before accessing its
constructor name and uses the generic name 'Function'
if the prototype is not available.

This changes the signature of InspectorSession.post_message to take a
&str rather than a String avoiding the need call str.to_string at each
call site.
This commit fixes implementation of top level await in "deno_core".
Previously promise returned from module execution was ignored causing to execute
modules out-of-order.
With this commit promise returned from module execution is stored on "JsRuntime"
and event loop is polled until the promise resolves.
This makes use of a default referrer when its empty in repl mode so that
dynamic imports work in the global evaluation context.

This ports the REPL over to Rust and makes use of an inspector session to run a REPL on top of any isolate which lets make full use of rustylines various things like validators and completors without having to introduce a bunch of hard to test internal ops and glue code.
An accidental but good side effect of this is that the multiple line input we previously had is now an editable multi-line input prompt that is correctly stored in the history as a single entry.
This extracts the inspector session specific bits from CoverageCollector
into a standalone struct dubbed `InspectorSesssion` which can be used as
a general purpose session to communicate with the inspector on the same
thread as an isolate/inspector pair lives on.
Previously when we used the websocket to talk to the inspector we used
the runtime domain to send a "runIfWaitingForDebugger" message.
However this is not required since we now talk to the inspector directly
and no longer send said message so this removes the enabling of the
domain entirely.
This commits removes "CompilerWorker" in favor of
using "JsRuntime".
"cli/ops/compiler.rs" has been removed in favor of inline
registration of ops in "cli/tsc.rs"
This commit removes cli/tsc/40_error_stack.js as it is not
needed in TSC host. All errors originating in TSC are terminal
and don't require source mapping hence we can rely on default
stack traces provided by deno_core.
Additionally tsc/06_util.js was removed and its code moved
to tsc/99_main_compiler.js
This makes inspector registration with the server with optional and
explicit to allow for inspectors to exist without spinning up the
server.
As a side effect of the server being explicitly passed around it also
makes it possible to bind multiple servers.
This commit adds support for stack traces in "deno_core".

This commit adds "EmitTranspileOptions" to "transpile()" function,
that allows to configure transpilation process based on the
currently loaded "tsconfig.json".
All benchmarks are done in Rust and can be invoked with
`cargo bench`.
Currently this has it's own "harness" that behaves like
`./tools/benchmark.py` did.
Because of this tests inside `cli/bench` are currently not run.
This should be switched to the language provided harness
once the `#[bench]` attribute has been stabilized.
This ensures that all spaces are set to be "+" in the string rather than
just the first and brings deno into line with how browsers handle spaces
in URLSearchParams, see #7001.

The typescript git submodule is removed, because it's a very large repo and

This commit adds a fallback mechanism for absent compiled source file.
Because imported type declaration files are not emitted by TS compiler
and their imports are not elided users often hit "No such file or directory"
error. With this commit in such situation an empty source file will be
provided to V8 with a warning to the user suggesting using "import type"/
"export type" syntax instead.
This commits adds support for "--config" flag in "deno install"
subcommand. Specified configuration file is copied alongside
source code to installation directory.

This PR removes direct dependency on dprint-plugin-typescript
and swc_ecma_visit. Both of these dependencies have been
pushed out to deno_lint crate. This should make it a bit easier
to do the upgrades and prevent having conflicting crate requirements.
This commit adds a "--no-check" option to following subcommands:
- "deno cache"
- "deno info"
- "deno run"
- "deno test"
The "--no-check" options allows to skip type checking step and instead
directly transpiles TS sources to JS sources.
This solution uses `ts.transpileModule()` API and is just an interim
solution before implementing it fully in Rust.
Currently, the documentation makes it sound like the test subcommand's filter
flag could accept some kind of pattern matching value like a glob or a regex,
although the function "createFilterFn" accepts a regex as an argument, there's
no way to pass an actual regex value from the CLI.
This commit makes it possible to pass a string that could be cast as regex
when string matches "^/.*/$".
With this change, a user can use the filter flag as follow:
deno test --filter "/test-.+/"
Also tested that `\` get escaped properly, on MacOS at least, and this is
also a valid flag:
deno test --filter "/test-\d+/"
This commit adds incremental compilation capabilities to internal TS compiler.
Instead of using "ts.createProgram()" API for compilation step (during deno
startup), "ts.createIncrementalProgram()" API is used instead.
Thanks to TS' ".tsbuildinfo" file that already stores all necessary metadata
for compilation I was able to remove our own invention that is ".graph" file.
".tsbuildinfo" file is stored alongside compiled source and is used to
cache-bust outdated dependencies, facilitated by the "version" field.
The value for "version" field is computed in Rust during loading of module
graph and is basically a hash of the file contents.
Please keep in mind that incremental compilation is only used for initial
compilation (or dynamic imports compilation) - bundling and runtime compiler
APIs haven't been changed at all.
Due to problems with source map I changed compilation settings to inline
source map (inlineSourceMap instead of sourceMap).
The following used to fail in Deno despite working in the browser:

This commit provides a "system_loader_es5.js" bundle loader which will be added
to the bundle when the target is < ES2017, which is the minimum target syntax
required for "system_loader.js".
Supports #5913 (via Deno.bundle()) with a couple caveats:
* Allowing "deno bundle" to take a different target is not supported, as we
specifically ignore "target" when passed in a TypeScript config file. This is
because deno bundle is really intended to generate bundles that work in Deno.
It is an unintentional side effect that some bundles are loadable in browsers.
* While a target of "es3" will be accepted, the module loader will still only be
compatible with ES5 or later. Realistically no one should be expecting bundles
generated by Deno to be used on IE8 and prior, and there is just too much
"baggage" to support that at this point.
This is a minor variation of 75bb9d, which exposed some sort of internal V8 bug.

The tests for testing that `Deno.truncateSync` and `Deno.truncate`
require write permissions seem to not call the functions they are
testing *at all* and are calling `Deno.mkdir` and `Deno.mkdirSync`
instead.
This commit replaces those calls with calls to `Deno.truncateSync`
and `Deno.truncate` respectively.
Currently WebAssembly runtime errors don't propagate up to the user as
they use urls to denote where the error occurred which get caught by the source-map
pipeline which doesn't support the wasm scheme.

* added default file globs so "deno lint" can be run
without arguments (just like "deno fmt")
* added test for globs in "deno lint"

This commit fixes several regressions in TS compiler:
* double compilation of same module during same process run

* unexpected skip of emit during compilation
Additional checks were added to ensure "allowJs" setting is
used in TS compiler if JavaScript has non-JS dependencies.
Currently sync operations on stdin are failing because tokio::Stdin
cannot be converted to a std::File.
This commit replaces tokio::stdin with a raw file descriptor
wrapped in a std::fs::File which can be converted to a
tokio::File and back again making the synchronous version
of op_read actually work.
$HOME is meaningless on Windows. It may be set by users or by third
party software, but it is non-standard and should not be relied upon.
Likewise, $USERPROFILE is meaningless on other platforms.

There is some controversy about this change because vscode doesn't interpret the fragments correctly. Needs more discussion before landing.
This commit fixes regression that caused TS dependencies
not being compiled.
Check was added that ensures TS compiler is run if
any of dependencies in module graph is TS/TSX/JSX.
This PR addresses many problems with module graph loading
introduced in #5029, as well as many long standing issues.
"ModuleGraphLoader" has been wired to "ModuleLoader" implemented
on "State" - that means that dependency analysis and fetching is done
before spinning up TS compiler worker.
Basic dependency tracking for TS compilation has been implemented.
Errors caused by import statements are now annotated with import
location.

Since everything that Deno loads is treated as an ES Module,
it means that all code is treated as "use strict" except for
when using the REPL. This PR changes that so code in the
REPL is also always evaluated with "use strict". There are
also a couple other places where we load code as scripts
which should also use "use strict" just in case.
This commit changes how error occurring in SWC are handled.
Changed lexer settings to properly handle TS decorators.
Changed output of SWC error to annotate with position in file.
This commit fixes a bug introduced in #5029 that caused bad
handling of redirects during module analysis.
Also ensured that duplicate modules are not downloaded.
This commit disabled flaky test in cli/module_graph.rs.
The test uses 019_media_types.ts which was known to be flaky
for some time. Test should be reenabled once test HTTP server
is rewritten to Rust.
This commit completely overhauls how module analysis is
performed in TS compiler by moving the logic to Rust.
In the current setup module analysis is performed using
"ts.preProcessFile" API in a special TS compiler worker
running on a separate thread.
"ts.preProcessFile" allowed us to build a lot of functionality
in CLI including X-TypeScript-Types header support
and @deno-types directive support. Unfortunately at the
same time complexity of the ops required to perform
supporting tasks exploded and caused some hidden
permission escapes.
This PR introduces "ModuleGraphLoader" which can parse
source and load recursively all dependent source files; as
well as declaration files. All dependencies used in TS
compiler and now fetched and collected upfront in Rust
before spinning up TS compiler.
To achieve feature parity with existing APIs this commit
includes a lot of changes:
* add "ModuleGraphLoader"
- can fetch local and remote sources
- parses source code using SWC and extracts imports, exports, file references, special
headers
- this struct inherited all of the hidden complexity and cruft from TS version and requires
several follow up PRs
* rewrite cli/tsc.rs to perform module analysis upfront and send all required source code to
TS worker in one message
* remove op_resolve_modules and op_fetch_source_files from cli/ops/compiler.rs

This commit removes "check_stderr" setting from itest! macro used
to generate integration tests. Without this setting on tests discarded
output of stderr making it very hard to debug the problem in test.
Numerous tests were changed by adding "--quiet" flag to not display
"Compile"/"Download" prompts.
This commit fixes panic occurring if $DENO_DIR is set to a relative
path, eg. "DENO_DIR=denodir deno run main.ts".
Before creating DenoDir instance given path is checked and if necessary

Importing .wasm files is non-standardized therefore deciding to
support current functionality past 1.0 release is risky.
Besides that .wasm import posed many challenges in our codebase
due to complex interactions with TS compiler which spawned
thread for each encountered .wasm import.
This commit removes:
- cli/compilers/wasm.rs
- cli/compilers/wasm_wrap.js
- two integration tests related to .wasm imports
This commit updates "deno_typescript" crate to properly map
bundle entrypoint file to internal specifier.
All import specifiers were remapped from "file:///a/b/c.ts" to
"$deno$/a/b/c.ts", but that was not the case for entrypoint file
"main.ts" and "compiler.ts".
Because of that internal stack traces were inconsistent; showing
"file:///some/random/path/on/ci/machine.ts" URL in frames that
originate from "main.ts" or "compiler.ts" and "$deno$/file.ts"
for all other imports.
This PR removes op_cache and refactors how Deno interacts with TS compiler.
Ultimate goal is to completely sandbox TS compiler worker; it should operate on
simple request -> response basis. With this commit TS compiler no longer
caches compiled sources as they are generated but rather collects all sources
and sends them back to Rust when compilation is done.
Additionally "Diagnostic" and its children got refactored to use "Deserialize" trait
instead of manually implementing JSON deserialization.
The issue is solved by proxying websocket messages over a pair of
`futures::mpsc::unbounded` channels. As these are are implemented in

This PR removes the hack in CLI that allows to run scripts with shorthand: deno script.ts.
Removing this functionality because it hacks around short-comings of clap our CLI parser. We agree that this shorthand syntax is desirable, but it needs to be rethinked and reimplemented. For 1.0 we should go with conservative approach that is correct.
This PR adds prepare_load hook method to ModuleLoader trait. It allows implementors to perform preparation work before starting actual module loading into isolate. It's meant to be used in CLI; where "transpilation" step will be explicitly performed during prepare_load instead of doing it adhoc for each module if needed.
Keep in mind Buffer.toString() still exists, but returns [object Object].
Reason for removal of Buffer.toString() was that it implicitly used
TextDecoder with fixed "utf-8" encoding and no way to customize
the encoding.
This change is to prevent needed a separate stat syscall for each file
when using readdir.
For consistency, this PR also modifies std's `WalkEntry` interface to
extend `DirEntry` with an additional `path` field.
This commit removes "combined" interfaces from cli/js/io.ts; in the
like of "ReadCloser", "WriteCloser" in favor of using intersections
of concrete interfaces.
Changed `URL.port` implementation to match [WHATWG
specifications](https://url.spec.whatwg.org/#port-state).
This PR matches the behaviour of other browsers:
1. a `TypeError` must be thrown when passing an URL with an invalid
port to the constructor.
2. When setting an invalid port, using property setter, I haven't found
what should happen in this case, so I mimic **Firefox** & **Node**
behaviour. If an invalid port is set, it will use the previous value.
**Chrome** sets the value to `'0'` if an invalid port is set. I prefer
to keep the previous valid value. (I can use Chrome's behaviour if you
think it's better, it's a simple value change)

3. If the port value equals the current protocol default port value,
`port` will be an empty string.
When creating a console instance, one must pass "printFunc" arg
which is used internally by Console to output messages.
Due to numerous refactors there was a single method ("console.clear()")
that used "Deno.stdout" instead of "printFunc".
This commit unifies how "Console" outpus message, by using
"printFunc" in all methods; consequently "Deno.stdout" is no longer
imported in "cli/js/console.ts" making it a standalone module that doesn't
depend on any CLI-specific APIs.
Deno.runTests() interface is not yet good enough to be exposed
publicly with stability guarantees.
This commit removes public API related to testing: Deno.runTests()
and Deno.TestMessage, but keeps them exposed on Deno.internal object
so they can be used with "deno test" subcommand.
* Allows union and intersection types to have same multi-line behaviour as arguments (more like prettier).
* Stops line breaks before `extends` in conditional type, which would have been a parser error.
* Check for `// dprint-ignore-file` comment before parsing. This allow files that panic in swc to be ignored.

Refactors Event and EventTarget so that they better encapsulate their
non-public data as well as are more forward compatible with things like
DOM Nodes.
Moves `dom_types.ts` -> `dom_types.d.ts` which was always the intention,
it was a legacy of when we used to build the types from the code and the
limitations of the compiler. There was a lot of cruft in `dom_types`
which shouldn't have been there, and mis-alignment to the DOM standards.
This generally has been eliminated, though we still have some minor
differences from the DOM (like the removal of some deprecated
methods/properties).
Adds `DOMException`. Strictly it shouldn't inherit from `Error`, but
most browsers provide a stack trace when one is thrown, so the behaviour
in Deno actually better matches the browser.
`Event` still doesn't log to console like it does in the browser. I
wanted to get this raised and that could be an enhancement later on (it
currently doesn't either).
- Removes the __fetch namespace from `deno types`
- Response.redirect should be a static.
- Response.body should not be AsyncIterable.
- Disables the deno_proxy benchmark
- Makes std/examples/curl.ts buffer the body before printing to stdout
Fixes #4000 and fixes #4476. Now always tries to fetch reference types
for JS files. Does not throw if it fails, since Typescript compiler will
complain if the file is not there(it will try to fetch it again first)
and people who just use JS should not be bothered by this error.
Not sure about my test, it passes and catches the bug but maybe there is
a better way to express it.

This a complex boring PR that shifts around code (primarily) in cli/fs.rs and
cli/ops/fs.rs. The gain of this refactoring is to ease the way for #4188 and
#4017, and also to avoid some future development pain.
Mostly there is no change in functionality. Except:
* squashed bugs where op_utime and op_chown weren't using `resolve_from_cwd`
* eliminated the use of the external `remove_dir_all` crate.
* op_chmod now only queries metadata to verify file/dir exists on Windows (it
will already fail on Unix if it doesn't)
* op_chown now verifies the file/dir's existence on Windows like chmod does.

This PR brings assertOps and assertResources sanitizers to Deno.test() API.
assertOps checks that test doesn't leak async ops, ie. there are no unresolved
promises originating from Deno APIs. Enabled by default, can be disabled using
Deno.TestDefinition.disableOpSanitizer.
assertResources checks that test doesn't leak resources, ie. all resources used
in test are closed. For example; if a file is opened during a test case it must be
explicitly closed before test case finishes. It's most useful for asynchronous
generators. Enabled by default, can be disabled using
Deno.TestDefinition.disableResourceSanitizer.
We've used those sanitizers in internal runtime tests and it proved very useful in
surfacing incorrect tests which resulted in interference between the tests.
All tests have been sanitized.

Previously, we would just provide the raw JSON to the TypeScript
compiler worker, but TypeScript does not transform JSON. This caused
a problem when emitting a bundle, that the JSON would just be "inlined"
into the output, instead of being transformed into a module.
This fixes this problem by providing the compiled JSON to the TypeScript
compiler, so TypeScript just sees JSON as a "normal" TypeScript module.
This PR attempts to fix intermittent errors occurring on Windows for "cli/tests/unit_test_runner.ts." Runner has been reworked to create only single TCP listener instead of one listener per worker.
Additionally worker doesn't close TCP socket - it waits for parent process to close the socket and only then exits.
This commit changes output of default test reporter to resemble output from Rust test runner;
first the name of running test is printed with "...", then after test has run result is printed on the same line.

This commits add two new methods to "Deno.core" namespace: "encode" and "decode".
Those methods are bound in Rust to provide a) fast b) generally available of encoding and decoding UTF-8 strings.
Both methods are now used in "cli/js/dispatch_json.ts".

There's a lot of variation in doc comments and internal code about
whether chmod/0o777-style permissions are called `mode` or `perm`. (For
example, mkdir and writeFile choose differently.)
Had proposed earlier to go consistently with `perm`, but on balance devs
prefer to go with `mode`.
There's a lot of variation in doc comments and internal code about
whether the first parameter to file system calls is `path` or `name` or
`filename`. For consistency, have made it always be `path`.

Rewrite "testPerm" helper function used for testing of internal
runtime code. It's been renamed to "unitTest" and provides API that
is extensible in the future by accepting optional "UnitTestOptions"
argument. "test" helper was also removed and replaced by
overloaded version of "unitTest" that takes only function argument.
"UnitTestOptions" currently supports "perms" and "skip"
options, where former works exactly as first argument to "testPerm"
did, while the latter allows to conditionally skip tests.

We turned off `allowJs` by default, to keep the compiler from grabbing
a bunch of files that it wouldn't actually do anything useful with. On
the other hand, this caused problems with bundles, where the compiler
needs to gather all the dependencies, including JavaScript ones. This
fixes this so that when we are bundling, we analyse JavaScript imports
in the compiler.
* Rename MkdirOption interface to MkdirOptions
It was hard to remember which Options interfaces were spelled in the
singular and which in the plural (and anyway this one contained two
options).
Also added MkdirOptions to cli/js/deno.ts. All the analogous interfaces
were exported there.
* Rename RemoveOption interface to RemoveOptions
This was the last remaining Option interface spelled in the singular.
Easier to remember if they're all Option**s**; plus we may want to add extra
options here later.
Rewrite "normalize_path()" to remove all intermediate components from the path, ie. "./" and "../". It's very similar in functionality to fs::canonicalize(), however "normalize_path() doesn't resolve symlinks.
Previously, bundles always utilised top level await, even if the bundled
modules didn't require top level await. Now, analysis of the bundle is
done and if none of the bundled modules are asynchronously executed,
then the bundle as a whole will be synchronously executed.

This PR introduces the mutex guard for the test cases which depends on the
permission prompt mocking utility. permission_request test cases depend on
the mocked (dummy) value of the permission_prompt result. The value is stored
at static STUB_PROMPT_VALUE: AtomicBool and these test cases share this
value. So we should lock at the start of these test cases.
Before this change cargo test permission failed 6 times out of 20. After this
change, 0 times out of 20 (on my mac).
To better reflect changes in error types in JS from #3662 this PR changes
default error type used in ops from "ErrBox" to "OpError".
"OpError" is a type that can be sent over to JSON; it has all
information needed to construct error in JavaScript. That
made "GetErrorKind" trait useless and so it was removed altogether.
To provide compatibility with previous use of "ErrBox" an implementation of
"From<ErrBox> for OpError" was added, however, it is an escape hatch and
ops implementors should strive to use "OpError" directly.
This PR fixes an issue where we recursively analysed imports on plain JS files
in the compiler irrespective of "checkJs" being true. This caused problems
where when analysing the imports of those files, we would mistake some
import like structures (AMD/CommonJS) as dependencies and try to resolve
the "modules" even though the compiler would not actually look at those files.

When a bundle contains a single module, we were incorrectly determining
the module name, resulting in a non-functional bundle. This PR corrects
that determination.

Moves to using a minimal System loader for bundles generated by Deno.
TypeScript in 3.8 will be able to output TLA for modules, and the loader
is written to take advantage of that as soon as we update Deno to TS
3.8.
System also allows us to support `import.meta` and provide more ESM
aligned assignment of exports, as well as there is better handling of
circular imports.
The loader is also very terse versus to try to save overhead.
Also, fixed an issue where abstract classes were not being re-exported.

In denoland/deno#2335 a conditional was added to make sure
toAsyncIterator didn't skip chunks because the reader returned data and
EOF in a single call, fixing #2330.
Later, in denoland/deno#2591, the `Reader` interface changed to
`Promise<number | EOF>`. Since the reader no longer returns data and EOF
in a single call, this conditional is not necessary. We can just return
`{ done: true }` when we get `EOF`.

- Exports diagnostic items from `diagnostics.ts` which are missing at
runtime.
- Returns an array of diagnostics, instead of an object with a property
of `items`. This is because of the way Rust deals with certain
structures, and shouldn't be exposed in the APIs.
This change simplifies how we execute V8. Previously V8 Isolates jumped
around threads every time they were woken up. This was overly complex and
potentially hurting performance in a myriad ways. Now isolates run on
their own dedicated thread and never move.
- blocking_json spawns a thread and does not use a thread pool
- op_host_poll_worker and op_host_resume_worker are non-operational
- removes Worker::get_message and Worker::post_message
- ThreadSafeState::workers table contains WorkerChannel entries instead
of actual Worker instances.
- MainWorker and CompilerWorker are no longer Futures.
- The multi-threaded version of deno_core_http_bench was removed.
- AyncOps no longer need to be Send + Sync
This PR is very large and several tests were disabled to speed
integration:
- installer_test_local_module_run
- installer_test_remote_module_run
- _015_duplicate_parallel_import
- _026_workers
For some reason, the unit tests for Deno.remove() were not being imported to
unit_tests.ts and, consequently, not being executed. Thus, I imported them,
refactored some existent ones and wrote new ones for the symlink removal case.
Since the creation of a symlink is not implemented for Windows yet, assertions
that consider this state were added when the tests are executed in this OS.
This flag was added to evaluate performance relative to tokio's threaded
runtime. Although it's faster in the HTTP benchmark, it's clear the runtime
is not the only perf problem.
Removing this flag will simplify further refactors, in particular
adopting the #[tokio::main] macro. This will be done in a follow up.
Ultimately we expect to move to the current thread runtime with Isolates
pinned to specific threads, but that will be a much larger refactor. The
--current-thread just complicates that effort.

tokio_util::run and tokio::run_on_current_thread should accept Future<Output=()> instead of Future<Output=Result<(), ()>>. Currently, all the passed futures have to add Ok(()) or futures::future::ok(()) unnecessarily to call this method.
- Remove ability to specify run arguments like `--allow-net` after the
script argument. It's too hacky to make work with clap.
- Remove `--v8-options`, instead use `--v8-flags=--help`
- Give more descriptive names to unit tests in flags.rs
- Assume argv and subcommand into DenoFlags struct so the output of
flags module is only DenoFlags rather than the tuple (subcommand, flags,
argv).
- Improve CLI help text
- Make `deno run` specific args like `--allow-net` only show up in 'deno
help run' instead of as global flags in `deno help`.
- Removes `deno version` to simplify our implementation and be closer to
clap defaults. `deno -V` now only shows Deno's version and not V8's nor
TypeScript. `Deno.versions` can be used to see that information.
- Prevent clap from auto-detecting terminal width and attempting to wrap
text.
This PR removes tokio_util::block_on - refactored compiler and file
fetcher slightly so that we can safely block there - that's because
only blocking path consist of only synchronous operations.
Additionally I removed excessive use of tokio_util::panic_on_error
and tokio_util::run_in_task and moved both functions to cli/worker.rs,
to tests module.

After landing #3358 the benchmarks exploded indicating problems with workers and deno_core_http_bench.
This PR dramatically fixes thread/syscall count that showed up on benchmarks. Thread count is not back to previous levels but difference went from hundreds/thousands to about ~50.
- removes global `RESOURCE_TABLE` - resource tables are now created per `Worker`

to it to `cli/ops/io.rs`

caused by fact that dropping worker would close stdout for process

This patch does not work with the recent bundler changes (#3325).
Unfortunately I didn't merge master before landing this patch. It has
something to do with console.log not working inside the compiler worker.

Previously a default name was determined and the bundle written to that
file, now the bundle will be sent to `stdout`.
- Refactors in the TypeScript compiler to be able to support the concept
of a request type. This provides a cleaner abstraction and makes it
easier to support things like single module transpiles to the userland.
- Remove a "dangerous" circular dependency between `os.ts` and `deno.ts`,
and define `pid` and `noColor` in a better way.
- Don't bind early to `console` in `repl.ts`.
- Add an integration test for generating a bundle.
Towards simplifying (or better removing entirely) the CoreResource
trait. Resources should be any bit of privileged heap allocated memory
that needs to be referenced from JS, not very specific trait
implementations. Therefore CoreResource should be pushed towards being
as general as possible.
* Split ThreadSafeState into State and GlobalState. State is a "local"
state belonging to "Worker" while "GlobalState" is state shared by
whole program.
* Update "Worker" and ops to use "GlobalState" where applicable
* Move and refactor "WorkerChannels" resource
This avoids a crash when the Deno process has been running for
2**32 ms (about 50 days). Additionaly, time complexity of finding which
timer is due to fire next is reduced from from O(n) to O(log n).
Worth noting due to implementation of the Headers class the contents of headersMap have lowercase keys, although this matches the specification as header keys are case agnostic it does seem to not match behaviour of other implementations in other languages I have seen, would require some rewriting of Headers.ts
Basically this does pre-processing of TypeScript files and gathers all the
dependencies asynchronously. Only then after all the dependencies are gathered,
does it do a compile, which at that point all the dependencies are cached in
memory in the compiler, so with the exception of the hard coded assets, there
are no ops during the compilation.
Because op_fetch_source_files is now handled asynchronously in the runtime, we
can eliminate the tokio_util::block_on() which was causing the increase in
threads. Benchmarking on my machine has shown about a 5% improvement in speed
when dealing with compiling TypeScript. Still a long way to go, but an
improvement.
In theory the module name resolution and the fetching of the source files could
be broken out as two different ops. This would prevent situations of sending the
full source file all the time when actually the module is the same module
referenced by multiple modules, but that could be done subsequently to this.
When the global timer fires earlier than expected, which apparently
happens sometimes on server editions of Windows, we didn't call any
setTimeout callbacks, but we *also* didn't reschedule the global timer
to fire again later.
When this situation occurred it would make deno exit abruptly if there
were no other asynchronous ops running on the event loop. It could also
lead to application hangs if the upcoming setTimeout callback was
critical for the application to make progress.
This ensures the deno executable is properly created before running the integration tests.

- Fixes cargo publish on deno_typescript, deno_cli_snapshots, and
deno_cli.
- Combines cli_snapshots and js into one directory.
- Extracts TS version at compile time rather than runtime
- Bumps version awkwardly - it was necessary to test end-to-end
publishing. Sorry.
- Adds git submodule deno_typescript/typescript
Instead of using core/snapshot_creator.rs, instead two crates are
introduced which allow building the snapshot during build.rs.
Rollup is removed and replaced with our own bundler. This removes
the Node build dependency. Modules in //js now use Deno-style imports
with file extensions, rather than Node style extensionless imports.
This improves incremental build time when changes are made to //js files
by about 40 seconds.
This removes dispatch_flatbuffers as it is now unused. There are still a
few places where msg_generated is used: ErrorKind and MediaType. These
will be dealt with later.

The rules are now as follows:
* In `import` statements, as mandated by the WHATWG specification,
the import specifier is always treated as a URL.
If it is a relative URL, it must start with either / or ./ or ../
* A script name passed to deno as a command line argument may be either
an absolute URL or a local path.
- If the name starts with a valid URI scheme followed by a colon, e.g.
'http:', 'https:', 'file:', 'foo+bar:', it always interpreted as a
URL (even if Deno doesn't support the indicated protocol).
- Otherwise, the script name is interpreted as a local path. The local
path may be relative, and operating system semantics determine how
it is resolved. Prefixing a relative path with ./ is not required.
A lot of its functionality is unused still, but the goal it to slowly
migrate logging functionality to it. There is also a useful progress bar
which can be ported over later - it depends on this module.

It's unnecessary indirection and is preventing the ability to easily
pass isolate references into the dispatch and dyn_import closures.
Note: this changes how StartupData::Script is executed. It's no longer done
during Isolate::new() but rather lazily on first poll or execution.
This patch makes it so that RecursiveLoad doesn't own the Isolate, so
Worker::execute_mod_async does not consume itself.
Previously Worker implemented Loader, but now ThreadSafeState does.
This is necessary preparation work for dynamic import (#1789) and import
maps (#1921)
* Compiler no longer has its own Tokio runtime. Compiler handles one
message and then exits.
* Uses the simpler ts.CompilerHost interface instead of
ts.LanguageServiceHost.
* avoids recompiling the same module by introducing a hacky but simple
`hashset<string>` that stores the module names that have been already
compiled.
* Removes the CompilerConfig op.
* Removes a lot of the mocking stuff in compiler.ts like `this._ts`. It
is not useful as we don't even have tests.
* Turns off checkJs because it causes fmt_test to die with OOM.
op_fetch_module_meta_data is an op that is used by the TypeScript
compiler. TypeScript requires this op to be sync. However the
implementation of the op does things on the event loop (like fetching
HTTP resources).
In certain situations this can lead to deadlocks. The runtime's thread
pool can be filled with ops waiting on the result of
op_fetch_module_meta_data. The runtime has a maximum number of
threads it can use (the number of logical CPUs on the system).
This patch changes tokio_util::block_on to launch a new Tokio runtime
for evaluating the future, thus bipassing the max-thread problem.
This is only an issue in op_fetch_module_meta_data. Other synchronous
ops are truly synchornous, not interacting with the event loop. TODO
comments are added to direct future development.
Removed `extmap` and added .mjs entry in `map_file_extension`.
The assert in the compiler does not need to be updated, since it is
resolving from the compiled cache instead of elsewhere (notice the .map
is asserted next to it)
* In order to prevent ArrayBuffers from getting garbage collected by V8,
we used to store a v8::Persistent<ArrayBuffer> in a map. This patch
introduces a custom ArrayBuffer allocator which doesn't use Persistent
handles, but instead stores a pointer to the actual ArrayBuffer data
alongside with a reference count. Since creating Persistent handles
has quite a bit of overhead, this change significantly increases
performance. Various HTTP server benchmarks report about 5-10% more
requests per second than before.
* Previously the Persistent handle that prevented garbage collection had
to be released manually, and this wasn't always done, which was
causing memory leaks. This has been resolved by introducing a new
`PinnedBuf` type in both Rust and C++ that automatically re-enables
garbage collection when it goes out of scope.
* Zero-copy buffers are now correctly wrapped in an Option if there is a
possibility that they're not present. This clears up a correctness
issue where we were creating zero-length slices from a null pointer,
which is against the rules.
Op dispatch is now dynamically dispatched, so slightly less efficient.
The immeasurable perf hit is a reasonable trade for the API simplicity
that is gained here.
* Moves how snapshots are supplied to the Isolate. Previously they were
given by Behavior::startup_data() but it was only called once at
startup. It makes more sense (and simplifies Behavior) to pass it to the
constructor of Isolate.
* Adds new libdeno type deno_snapshot instead of overloading
deno_buf.
* Adds new libdeno method to delete snapshot deno_snapshot_delete().
* Renames deno_get_snapshot() to deno_snapshot_new().
* Makes StartupData hold references to snapshots. This was implicit when
it previously held a deno_buf but is made explicit now. Note that
include_bytes!() returns a &'static [u8] and we want to avoid
copying that.
Fixes some sed errors introduced in c43cfe.
Unfortunately moving libdeno required splitting build.rs into two parts,
one for cli and one for core.
I've also removed the arm64 build - it's complicating things at this
re-org and we're not even testing it. I need to swing back to it and get
tools/test.py running for it.
